India's economy has improved in recent years, and as a country with a population of 1.4 billion, it will soon surpass China's population. While India has made some progress in reducing extreme poverty over the past four decades, almost half of the population still spends less than 3 per day2 USD. More crucially, India's continued economic rise will determine its future as a great power. Although Modi has repeatedly stressed that India has been able to influence important trends around the world, there are many problems with the caste system in the country, as well as the quality of its own industry and population.
These are not the main points of discussion today, the point is to see how Indians are developing internationally. The current situation is that the poverty rate in India is rising on the one hand, and the Indian ethnic group is mixing well abroad. For example, it is indeed true that in many large multinational companies, especially the large IT companies in Silicon Valley, the number of executives of Indian origin is much higher than that of Chinese executives.
There have been many debates on the Internet about this issue, and many reasons have been summarized. For example, Indians have no language barrier, Indians like to hold groups, India has a large immigrant population, and the level of graduates from Indian Institute of Technology is really high, etc. So what is the root of this problem?
In fact, the above is not wrong, but it is not the root cause, the number of immigrants in India is the first in the world, and it has reached 17.5 million in 2019, which is equivalent to immigrating to six Lithuania every year, and the base is large enough. English is the second official language of India, and the English-speaking population is indeed larger than that of China. As for the fact that Indians like to hold together, there is such a situation, but only among Indians of the same caste, there is also a chain of contempt within the Indians themselves.
The status of the Indian Institute of Technology in India is equivalent to that of Qingbei in China, and the graduates who come out of here are indeed considered elite. But to say that it is better than the people who came out of Qingbei in China, it is a bit ridiculous, just like we complain about Qingbei, and the Indians themselves have not complained less that the Indian Institute of Technology is specially designed to train talents abroad.
So the question is, if these are all facts, why are they not the root causes? Because when Indians are promoted in these foreign companies, they will also encounter glass ceilings, especially first-class Indians. The difference is that the glass ceiling encountered by the Indians is significantly higher than that of the Chinese. The so-called glass ceiling refers to the invisible obstacles encountered in the process of job promotion, which cannot be seen or touched, and there are no written rules at all, but they are real.
This situation is common in foreign companies, and when you hit this ceiling, you will find that no matter how hard you try, you can't take another step forward, which means that your promotion path has reached the top. Especially in key management positions, for Chinese, unless there is a need for localization, such positions are almost always occupied by foreigners. This makes it clear that the root cause of this phenomenon is actually why there is such an unspoken rule as a glass ceiling. Why do Indians have an advantage over the Chinese in this regard? The answer is obvious, the problem lies with the white bosses who control the personnel power of the enterprise!
This begs the question, why do these old white people in Europe and the United States do this? To put it simply, this is the work of a deep-seated sense of racial superiority in the minds of Europeans and Americans. After all, the upper castes in India are all descendants of Europeans by root, so they will be given preferential treatment. Going deeper, this is because of the fear and vigilance of Chinese hidden deep in the hearts of white Europeans and Americans. In the perception of the Chinese people, we are a moderate and reasonable big country, but in the perception of many white Europeans and Americans, especially their elites, this is not the case at all.
At the time of the founding of the People's Republic of China, we drove out the foreigners on our land by force, recovered all the concessions, abolished all unequal treaties, and the interests of the European and American powers in China came to naught overnight, which seemed to them to be completely unreasonable and unacceptable. After that, on the Korean Peninsula, we beat up the 17-nation coalition led by the United States, the world's number one military power at the time. This battle not only shook our confidence, but also shook their fear, and made them think that China is completely neutral and moderate.
Speaking of which, not to mention the fact that when we fought against the United States and the Soviet Union alone, we also took the time to beat India, and only used border guards, which seemed a bit terrible to them. So much so that for a period of time, there was a yellow theory that compared China to the Mongols slaughtering Europe, and the French even made a special movie about the People's Liberation Army entering Paris!
India's independence, on the other hand, relied on Gandhi's policy of non-violent non-resistance, which not only retained the interests of the West, but also adopted the British bureaucracy and made English the official language. Compared with the two, it is obvious who Europe and the United States are more inclined to, which is why they have been smearing China for decades, but they are very tolerant of India.
On the other hand, in recent years, China has risen, and among the world's top 500 companies, the number of Chinese companies has surpassed that of the United States, and India has less than 10 companies. And with India's performance, Europe and the United States do not need to worry at all, Indians will bring back the technology they have learned to India like the Chinese, so they can confidently and boldly use Indian executives.
In the final analysis, this phenomenon is in the same vein as the behavior of Europe and the United States to suppress China, and it stems from their fear and vigilance of today's Chinese. Militarily, they do not dare to provoke easily, and technically they do not have the confidence to compete fairly, so the only thing left is to suppress. For us, we don't really need to care too much about these noises, just try to do our own things well, and see who the world will be in 20 years.
