Bad weather can affect your dog's exercise routine. Hot weather, cold weather, and rainy days all make it difficult for people to go outside for long periods of time and can even pose a health threat. Here are some indoor exercises you and your dog can do to release energy and stay in shape.
Climb stairs
Running up and down the stairs is great for building muscle when you can't get out. The sport is strenuous for both dogs and people. Be especially careful of dogs with long backs and short legs, as climbing stairs can be harmful to the hip joint.
Hide and seek
Indoor games like hide and seek can get your dog moving and provide mental stimulation.
Treadmill
If you're looking for a great way to exercise for your high-energy dog, look no further than a treadmill designed for dogs. With careful training, your dog may fall in love with treadmill workouts. While a treadmill is not a substitute for outdoor walks or running, it builds endurance and is not dependent on the weather.
Drag and drop game
Tug-of-war, when played well, builds muscles and bonds between humans and animals. Most dogs love to tow, and there is a wide variety of tow toys to choose from.
Agile
When we think of agile, we usually think of outdoor classes or large indoor spaces. However, you can practice agility at home. You can even make your own course supplies using equipment or household items made specifically for the sport, such as broom handles, cases, and mats.
