On the 13th, the Japanese fishing vessel "Zuibao Maru" illegally intruded into China's territorial waters of Chiweiyu and was driven away by the Chinese coast guard ship in accordance with the law and with warnings. This was revealed by Gan Yu, a spokesman for the China Coast Guard, in a routine briefing.
Chiwei Yu is part of the Diaoyu Islands, located at the easternmost tip of the Diaoyu Islands, and is called "Chikanling" in ancient Chinese texts, and "Taisho Island" or "Kume Chijima" in Japan. However, no matter what the Japanese side calls it, it cannot change the fact that Chiweiyu is China's inherent territory. China's sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands has a sufficient historical and legal basis, dating back to the Classic of Mountains and Seas during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period.
The Japanese media's coverage of the incident is relatively detailed, but it is also full of bias and distortion. The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper said that at around 5 a.m. that day, the Japan Coast Guard spotted two Chinese coast guard ships sailing in the waters near the Diaoyu Islands, and then dispatched patrol boats and asked the Chinese coast guard ships to leave. Obviously, this is wishful thinking on the part of the Japanese side, and the Chinese coast guard ships will not accept the unreasonable demands of the Japanese side, but will continue to carry out activities in the waters off the Diaoyu Islands.
Twenty-one kilometers southwest of Chiweiyu, Chinese coast guard vessels spotted the Japanese fishing boat Zuiho Maru, which was operating illegally, and immediately drove it away. Since 2020, the Japanese fishing boat has repeatedly illegally entered the waters of the Diaoyu Islands, and in 2021 it also participated in a lecture on "The Diaoyu Islands" in Ishigaki City, showing off its "experience" in confronting Chinese coast guard vessels.
After driving the Mizuho Maru away, Chinese coast guard vessels continued to patrol the waters off Chiwei Yu for 12 hours, one of which also tracked another Japanese fishing boat operating illegally. According to Japanese media, during this period, there was a confrontation between the Chinese coast guard ship and the patrol ship of the Japan Coast Guard, but the Japanese media did not disclose the result of the confrontation, but blindly accused the Chinese coast guard ship of "intruding into Japan's territorial waters".
However, it can be seen from the press release of the China Coast Guard that the Chinese coast guard ship took the necessary control measures in accordance with the law and warned the Japanese ship to leave. This shows that the Japan Coast Guard has not achieved any advantage in the confrontation, otherwise the Japanese media will definitely trumpet the "merits" of the Japan Coast Guard.
The Chinese coast guard vessel's expulsion of the Japanese fishing boat was just a routine move by China to safeguard its sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands in accordance with the law. Since 2016, China Coast Guard vessels have carried out regular law enforcement activities in the waters off the Diaoyu Islands, with a maximum of eight law enforcement vessels patrolling at the same time and a minimum of two to four law enforcement vessels sailing in the waters around the Diaoyu Islands. China's ability to control the waters around the Senkakus has been significantly improved, and Japan's attempts to provoke China with the help of fishing boats are futile.
