100 Helping Plan Keywords: paper, ion beam cutting, preparation.
Sample information
Sample Name:Paper coating.
Sample features:The paper substrate is soft and easy to deform; The coating is hard, brittle and easy to peel off.
As shown in the figure below, the lighter part in the middle is cut for preparation.
Analytical purposes
The sample cross-section is processed by ion beam to obtain a flat cross-section for subsequent energy spectrum analysis.
An overview of the preparation process
Intensive Grinding Machine (EM TXP) Preparation process
The sample was embedded into small cuboid blocks (Figure 1), the sample grinding section was fixed with a TXP flat grip (Figure 2), and the sample clamp for different inserts was used to grind the plane (Figure 3). The tools used are arranged from left to right: 45um grinding disc, 9um grinding disc (Fig. 4).
Ion beam cutting (EM TIC3X) preparation process
Ion grinding parameters: prepared at room temperature.
Procedure: (3kv 30min, 0kv 10min) x6
Ion beam cutting results
Observation and photographing (SEM):
Ion beam cutting sample.
The left image shows 200 x and the right image shows 1000 x.
Observation and photographing (electron microscope BSE):
Ion beam cutting sample.
The left image shows 200 x and the right image shows 1000 x.
Summary
The coating is brittle and must be embedded to keep the coating intact during processing.
It is more recommended to use the ion beam polishing scheme to do it, the heat resistance is not high, and it needs to be cut at low voltage, which takes a long time.
The mechanical treatment before ion beam polishing can be completed by a precision grinding machine or an ordinary grinding and polishing machine, and the minimum load is used to complete it as much as possible.
