"When people don't feel well, they tend to rely on medications. Trends suggest that being in a health-friendly environment is more effective in preventing or helping to prevent disease. ”
Professor Andy Jones, University of England.
After experiencing the epidemic that lasted for three years, I felt the increasingly prominent climate change such as droughts, wildfires, and heavy rainfall, and witnessed that COP26 has reduced emissions and controlled global warming for countries around the world by no more than 15 of the game negotiations, health becomes a topic of concern for each of us. Zheng Xi, a professor at Beijing Forestry University, said that human society has never stopped serving its own health and survival by creating landscapes in the course of historical development, such as the continuous improvement of the public health system in the process of industrialization and the extensive urban park movement. Despite this, the sudden outbreak has brought major challenges to urban public health around the world, which has greatly affected people's attention to green lifestyle advocacy and health promotion. At the same time, the increasingly severe challenges of an aging society urgently require the construction of a healthy environment for the elderly. For children and adolescents, advances in modern technology and changes in social life have reshaped new life experiences, providing them with more opportunities to connect with nature, promote their physical and mental health development, and cultivate creativity, risk-taking and social interaction. Of course, there are other special groups that need more attention, for example, we need to provide high-pressure people with places in cities where they can recover physically and mentally, so that they can work and live healthier.
As a landscape architect, how to think about the relationship between the urban green environment and people's residence, life, work and rest from the perspective of spatial pattern and green space quality, so that more living areas can be infiltrated by the green environment and build a healthy landscape system.
What is a wellness landscape
The research status of health and wellness landscape is closely related to social development, and the formation and development of its concept has gone through a long process, and its connotation mainly adheres to the research context of **landscape, **garden, **garden, etc., and continues to enrich with the change of environment and the improvement of people's living standards. Compared with the first landscape to serve a specific group of people, the service objects of health care landscape are more extensive, not only focusing on the recovery of the health of specific groups, but also paying more attention to the maintenance of the health of the general population.
Many people think that the health and wellness landscape is "**" and "recuperation", in fact, its broader meaning is "health" and "wellness". Wellness landscape is a landscape design based on the concept of health, which aims to promote people's active lifestyle by having a beneficial impact on people's mental and physical health. It covers not only the elderly, the sick, but also sub-health and healthy people. People can stimulate the senses, relieve stress, get rid of numbness and fatigue by resting, viewing, meditating, and breathing aromatic air, so that disordered physiological functions can be regulated.
The target group health and wellness landscape includes a variety of landscape designs for physical and mental healing, such as healthy community landscape, public green space, ** garden, seaside recuperation, hot spring health, health and wellness theme town, regardless of the form, all deeply concerned about people's needs and health, and as far as possible through physiological and psychological interactive experience, to achieve the ultimate goal of making people emotionally stable and physically and mentally healthy.
What type of landscape promotes health
Wellness landscaping needs to be designed with multiple aspects in mind to create a comfortable, healthy, and beautiful environment. 1.The microclimate healing mechanism with "nature" as the main bodyUnder the condition of urban resource scarcity, more and more research and practice are introducing ecological planting of plant communities into urban habitats to restore or rebuild new vegetation with low input. The healthy relationship between neo-naturalistic ecological planting and urban microclimate is reflected in the macro and micro scales. As an important part of the urban physical environment, urban microclimate is affected by urban morphology and urban spatial layout in urban macro-scale landscape space. As an indispensable component of urban green infrastructure, the neo-naturalistic ecological plant community participates in optimizing the urban spatial layout, maintaining the balance of the ecosystem, and guiding urban health from top to bottom by combining with the urban gray infrastructure network.
2.Physiological healing mechanism with "people" as the main bodyNew naturalistic ecological planting takes horticulture as a link, and can regulate the body's own physiological indicators such as cortisol, heart rate, and blood pressure through the construction of physical and mental spaces and the organization of horticultural activities. On the one hand, the improvement of physiological indicators of horticultural activities is reflected in the fact that people carry out a variety of interactions from the communication space provided by the plant community landscape, such as feeding small animals, floral activities, planting experience sharing, etc., to obtain social support from each other or relatives and friends, meet the needs of pleasant social interaction, promote psychological integrity and emotional calm, and indirectly promote the improvement of physiological indicators.
3.A psychological healing mechanism with "people" as the main bodyColorful plant communities have a greater visual impact than a single green plant community, and this visual influence affects the body's "mood". In urban habitats with relatively low landscape diversity, the neo-naturalistic ecological plant community causes heart rate changes through the landscape atmosphere of different color plant communities, that is, visual stimulation of nerves, immunity, etc., which drives people's subjective feelings, and then produces emotional interpretation and response, and plays a healing role. Compared with traditional horticultural planting, the new naturalistic ecological plant community is more colorful and diverse, and the healing effect of different color combinations on people is different.
Case study of health and wellness landscape design
Jin Wellbeing County Happy Town Retirement Community Landscape Design
Bangkok, Thailand
The project is Thailand's first integrated residential community for the elderly, including residential, commercial space and medical facilities. At the heart of the project concept is to meet the needs of the elderly, with a focus on "sustainable ecology", "physical health" and "sense of community".
The design concept revolves around the three cores of "Retreat", "Participation" and "Creation" to create a rich content of activities for residents and enhance people's living experience in an all-round way. Through the preliminary study of the seven factors affecting health, the designer integrated the perfect concept of health care into the landscape design, making the "community in the mountains and forests" a reality, and contributing to the health and longevity of the elderly.
Design Concept. Located near Jin Wellness Wellness Centre and Thonburi Burana Hospital, the "Healing Garden" is one of the highlights of the project to further promote people's physical and mental health. In the colorful and pleasantly scented garden, people's five senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch are mobilized, so as to achieve a state of whole-body health. On the garden floor, rough raised stones form a path that massages the soles of the feet. In addition, the designer also designed three modes for the trail according to the professional physical process, namely flat road, ramp and step. All trails are equipped with handrails, so patients can walk with their caregivers to regain their strength in a beautiful natural environment and finally reach the best state.

2.Landscape design of Sunshine City Kobe Retirement Apartment
Kobe, Japan
An immediate issue for the city as a whole and for the Kobe Happy and Vibrant City project is how to provide housing for the region's growing elderly population. Located between a noisy viaduct and a quiet boulevard, the project is a high-quality towered retirement community in Kobe, Japan, and represents a turning point in the revitalization of the Kansai region through a vibrant residential, cultural and development area that replaces heavy industry.
The overall landscape design of the project follows the traditional landscape theory of "adapting to local conditions" and "seeing the big from the small", integrating the regional characteristics of the city, the mountains, and the sea, and making use of the abundant local resources to reproduce the vast natural landscape of the local area in a small-scale site. Within the site, a series of interconnected garden courtyards: the entrance courtyard, the south garden, the main atrium garden, and the roof garden, are interconnected and extend into the building, creating experiences through nature that foster communication and dialogue between indoor and outdoor.
For safety and maintenance reasons, the paths in the garden courtyard are flat and seamlessly connected to the interior, which is also one of the considerations of the overall age-appropriate landscape design. The designers also carefully studied the diversity of local plants in order to introduce bird habitat into the site. Before the opening of the nursing home, a group of cute ducks "moved in", and then became the group pets of the elderly. Taking pictures of group pets every day and then "punching in" to share with relatives has become a new entertainment method for the elderly.

4.Songshan Kangyang Wetland Park
Shandong, Linyi
Songshan is located in Yinan County, Linyi City, with red culture and landscape ecology as the main characteristics, sitting on the Wen River and Sunzu River two natural water systems convergence, the natural scenery is beautiful and colorful. The plan reproduces the beautiful scenery of "the sunset and the egrets fly together, the clear water and the blue sky", and creates a sustainable waterfront space, which is the key to leading Songshan Wetland Park into a vibrant ecological waterfront area. The design strategy proposed by the design team revolves around adhering to the principle of "comprehensive protection, scientific restoration, rational utilization, and sustainable development", combines the topography and modern waterfront ecosystem, connects the mountains and wilderness, and shapes an ecological corridor with the Wenhe River landscape, and builds a green ecological corridor on this basis, and connects the north city and the south with the blue-green corridor and the functional corridor, forming a different style of urban environment and wild interest.
The team deeply explored the spatial organization and cultural heritage of traditional village groups in Shandong, and through the refinement and modernization of cultural space prototypes such as "village agriculture, culture and inheritance" in Shandong, different group models and landscape designs were constructed.
Spatial structure: one belt and one heart and six areas (aerobic diffuse streamer, Fengqi sandbank center, sports and recreation area, pastoral community, plant ornamental area, leisure activity area, rational use area, ecological restoration area).
