Nantong, Jiangsu, December 24, 2023 – Today, the rake suction dredger "New Sea Sturgeon", which marks the latest technological achievements of China's shipbuilding industry, was officially launched in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. As the first large-scale rake suction dredger with dual-fuel power system in China and the largest in the world, the birth of the "New Sea Sturgeon" will lead a new chapter in green shipping.
The total length of the "new sea sturgeon" is 1557 meters, 32 meters wide, full load draft 99 meters, with a streamlined hull and a powerful double oar, double harrow, double deflector design. Its biggest highlight is the use of LNG and diesel dual-fuel power system, with liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the main fuel, and the backup diesel power system can be enabled under the condition that LNG refueling cannot be met. This dual-fuel powertrain is designed to switch at the right time to maximize the goal of green energy saving.
It is worth mentioning that the "New Sea Sturgeon" ship is also equipped with the most advanced and intelligent "one-key dredging" and "dredging and driving integration" systems in China. In the dredging operation, only one ship pilot is needed to realize fully automated "unmanned dredging", which greatly improves the efficiency and safety of the operation.
As a rake suction dredger, the "New Sea Sturgeon" is mainly responsible for dredging waterways and river silt, and is also a "big country's heavy weapon" for sand blowing and reclamation. With its unique rake design, it is able to work in a way that suctifies mud and sails, just like an efficient vacuum cleaner.
It is reported that since the construction of the "New Sea Sturgeon" started on December 26, 2022, it has attracted much attention from the industry. It is expected to be delivered in September 2024 and will be mainly used in the dredging construction of the Yangtze River estuary, Shanghai area and major ports and waterways along China's coast. The successful implementation of this major project will undoubtedly be of great significance to promote the development of domestic green shipping.
With the increasing attention to environmental protection in the world, green shipping has become an inevitable trend in the development of the industry. The successful launch of the "New Sea Sturgeon" not only demonstrates the leading strength of China's shipbuilding industry in the field of green technology, but also sets a new benchmark for the global shipping industry.
In the future, we look forward to seeing more innovative vessels like the New Sea Sturgeon born in China's shipyards, leading the global shipping industry towards a greener, more efficient and more sustainable future."
