Gardenia, is an evergreen shrub plant belonging to the Gentian Rubiaceae family.

Its leaves are verdant in color and have a strong branching ability. Whenever it blooms, the gardenia blooms into small flowers, pure and flawless in color, and the aroma is rich but not pungent. With proper care, it can even produce yellow fruits, and with clever pruning, it can be cultivated into a beautiful potted plant, which significantly improves its aesthetics.

Gardenias are relatively easy to maintain, but in this August, some flower lovers found that although their gardenias had already bloomed, their growth rate slowed down and even stagnated. This is actually due to the wrong way of maintenance.

It is recommended that in August, in order to moisten the position, irrigate more water and fertilize frequently, and irrigate three kinds of water in turn to make the new branches dense, blooming hundreds of flowers at a time, fragrant and pleasant.

The first type of water: cut off the residual flowers and supplement the ternary compound fertilizer water. After the failure of the gardenia, the residual flowers should be cut off in time to promote the gardenia to re-differentiate into new branches and new buds.

If the residual flowers are left unchecked, the original flower buds will gradually wilt, the flower branches will shrink and turn black, and the growth will stagnate, and at the same time, it will continue to consume nutrients, which is not beneficial to the recovery of gardenias. When pruning the residual flowers, it should be counted below the position of the residual flowers, generally retained below 2 to 3 pairs of leaves, and the rest of the leaves should be pruned off.

The second pruning point is optimal, i.e., the axillary bud point below the residual flower, to clean off the part above the axillary bud. After pruning, the gardenia is dried for about 5 days, and then supplemented with ternary compound fertilizer to accelerate the differentiation of new branches.

The second type of water: improve the soil, water the ferrous sulfate solution.

After flowering failure, the slowdown in the growth of some plants may be due to the reduced nutrient uptake efficiency, and soil compaction or alkalinization is one of the main reasons. In this case, it is not suitable to replace the soil, but the soil structure can be improved by a solution of ferrous sulfate. Gardenias prefer slightly acidic soils, so if the soil is neutral, it can cause the leaves to gradually turn yellow.

To solve this problem, humus or pine needle soil can be selected when configuring the soil, and a granular matrix can be added. Regular irrigation with ferrous sulfate solution to improve soil structure.

The third type of water: full sun exposure, spraying water mist to increase the humidity of the environment.

After completing the above work, gradually extend the sun exposure time of gardenias. Since gardenias love light, they should not be exposed to sunlight for long periods of time, as this will cause the water to evaporate too quickly, which is not conducive to normal differentiation. While in the sun for 6-8 hours, increase the frequency of water mist spraying, especially in the morning and evening.

This helps to increase the humidity of the environment, making the foliage fuller and creating more favorable conditions for the differentiation of flower buds.

Summary: In mid-August, in order to allow gardenias to quickly resume growth, it is necessary to moisten the position and irrigate three kinds of water in turn. First of all, the residual flowers were cut off and the ternary compound fertilizer water was supplemented to promote the differentiation of new branches.

Secondly, improve the soil, water the ferrous sulfate solution, and increase the acidity of the soil. Finally, full sun exposure and water mist increase the humidity of the environment to create a suitable growth environment. In this way, the gardenia will grow densely, blooming hundreds of flowers at a time, and will continue to be fragrant and pleasant for most of the year.
