Huangchao Village, located in Liubu Street, a mountainous area in the south of Jinan, still has many legends about the Huangchao Uprising at the end of the Tang Dynasty.
Huangchao Village was originally known as Huangcao Valley (there is an inscription of "Sanguan Temple" in the village today), it is said that Huangchao once stationed troops and fought here, and died in battle here. After that, the local people renamed Huangcao Valley "Huangchao" to commemorate it.
According to the "Licheng County Chronicle", after the Huangchao army withdrew from Chang'an, it entered the north foot of Mount Tai in the east and set up camp in the area of Dahuangcaoyu. The Tang soldiers pursued, and the two sides fought fiercely at the "Battle Ridge" in the north of Huangcaogu Village, and finally Huangchao was wiped out at the "Dead Man's Ditch" (formerly known as Wolf Tiger Ditch).
As a result, there are many relics of the Huangchao rebel army stationed and fighting in this area. Drinking horse bay and flagpole nest are the places where the rebel army drinks horses and erects big flags; The "Battle Ridge" and the "Dead Man's Ditch" are the ...... places where the rebel army fought the most fierce and tragic battles against the Tang soldiers
On December 30, 1989, Huangchao Village was named "Huangchao Peasant Uprising Memorial Site" by the people of Licheng District, Jinan City, and was listed as a county-level key cultural relics protection unit. In March 2009, the village was rated as a historical and cultural village in Shandong Province, and in 2015, it was selected as the first batch of cultural heritage units of the "Rural Memory" project in Shandong Province.
Relying on the excellent natural resources of the southern mountainous areas, Huangchao Village grows tea and other cash crops. Internet celebrity landmarks such as Huangchao Reservoir and Huangchao Waterfall here have driven the development of local camping, catering and other industries, and this former ancient village has become lively.
