Baghdad, 9 Jan (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Rashid said in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, on 9 January that the US-led international coalition must carry out relevant actions within the agreed framework.
According to a statement issued by the Iraqi government, Rashid said in a meeting with US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanovsky at the government on the same day that the international coalition must carry out the relevant operations within the agreed framework, that is, to provide training and advisory support to the Iraqi security forces.
Rashid said: Iraq is willing to establish balanced bilateral relations with neighboring countries and countries around the world, which is in the interests of the people of Iraq and the Middle East region. He also said that the new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict has seriously affected stability in the Middle East, and the international community, including the United States, should actively shoulder its responsibilities and ease regional tensions through dialogue.
The headquarters of the 12th Brigade of the Iraqi militia armed "Popular Mobilization Organization" in eastern Baghdad was attacked by drones on the 4th, killing three people and injuring five others. Iraqi authorities said the international coalition was responsible for the attack.
Iraqi Prime Minister Al-Sudani said on the 5th that there is no reason for the international coalition to continue to exist in Iraq, and that Iraq is coordinating a specific time for dialogue on this issue, and that Iraq's position of promoting the end of the international coalition's presence in Iraq is firm and "will not back down on this commitment."
The United States launched the Iraq War in 2003 and withdrew its troops from Iraq at the end of 2011, leaving only a small number of troops stationed. The extremist group Islamic State seized large swathes of western and northern Iraq in 2014, and the U.S.-led international coalition against the Islamic State subsequently increased its presence in Iraq. In January 2022, the Iraqi Prime Minister's Press Office issued a statement saying that the international coalition's combat mission had ended, the Iraqi military had taken over all military bases, and some foreign military personnel engaged in advisory work remained in Iraq to continue to provide support to Iraqi security forces.
