Yangcheng Evening News reporter Ai Xiuyu.
From November 29th to December 10th, the 5th Daliangshan Theater Festival in 2023 was held in Xichang, Sichuan.
With the theme of "Drama is Life, Drama is Us", this year's Drama Festival attracted 115 high-quality plays from Zimbabwe, Belgium, Romania and other countries and domestic provinces and cities. During the festival, 216 performances covering drama, dance drama, ** drama, pantomime, physical drama, children's drama, puppet show, Kunqu opera, Lu opera, Chu opera, new circus and other performance forms were staged in four major spaces in Xichang and nine cloud theaters in Liangshan.
During the festival, the Yangcheng Evening News reporter was invited to Xichang to visit the front and back of the stage, and had a dialogue with Pu Cunxin, chairman of the Chinese Dramatists Association, He Saifei, a Yue opera performance artist, Tobias Bionconi, director general of the UNESCO International Theatre Association, and other guests, to listen to them talk about their decades of experience in performing arts, and the path and possibility of dialogue between national culture, local theater and the world.
Pu Cunxin: "Artists need to be closely connected with their audiences".
The Daliangshan Theater Festival was jointly initiated by 24 artists and cultural scholars including Pu Cunxin, Li Ting, Liao Changyong, Ji Di Majia, A Lai, Qian Wenzhong, Wang Xiaoying, Huang Dingshan, Hao Rong, Ren Dongsheng, Li Bonan, Zhao Miao, Tan Weiwei, Ayunga and other 24 artists and cultural scholars in 2019, and Liangshan Cultural Tourism Group operates the whole process. In the past four years, more than 120 well-known artists at home and abroad, more than 200 domestic and foreign art troupes, nearly 50 domestic art universities, more than 30 domestic theaters (venues) and performance institutions, nearly 200 well-known domestic and foreign plays from more than 10 countries, more than 3,000 Chinese and foreign actors, and more than 300,000 people have participated in the Daliangshan Theater Festival, with more than 3 billion online followers.
As the initiator of the drama festival, this year, Pu Cunxin came to Daliangshan again. In the warm winter sun by the Qionghai Sea, Pu Cunxin told a reporter from Yangcheng Evening News that this year's drama festival is a "small test". "Whether it is a theater person, or an audience at home and abroad, at this time of year, everyone gathers in Liangshan because of the theater festival. It can be said that in the past five years, Liangshan has formed a theatrical home in the western part of our motherland. Here, we find a piece of pure land for the drama to belong to, for the theater people to go home. Pu Cunxin said that the Daliangshan Theater Festival advocates the socialization of drama creation and the popularization of drama appreciation with its own unique tolerance and openness, and expresses the artistic, natural, social, national and international nature of drama.
As the chairman of the Chinese Dramatists Association, Pu Cunxin's artistic career of more than 40 years is closely linked to theater. This time he came to Liangshan, Pu Cunxin also repeatedly mentioned his thinking on the "artistic standards of drama performance", he said: "I always think that other art professions have a set of clear and strict basic skills training, such as opera pays attention to 'singing, reading, doing, playing', * pays attention to 'pitch, beat, speed', and art pays attention to 'composition, color, perspective, light ratio'......."However, drama performances seem to place more emphasis on the heart and emotions, and there seems to be no uniform standard for basic skills. ”
In Pu Cunxin's view, every drama actor is a language arts worker, and in order to speak his lines well, he must meet four standards: the words are correct and round, the breathing is smooth, the four voices are in place, and the meaning is reached. "For a long time, our drama performances have had the problem of 'repeating the speech and talking lightly', and the lines and voices with electric pulse sound diffused through the microphone have replaced the actors' human voices, and it is difficult for the audience to directly hear the vivid original sound of the actors directly through the body, which is a pity. ”
During the festival, the play "Border City" from the Beijing Gulou West Theater was staged in the very unique Gu Theater in Daliangshan. Surrounded by mountains, it is surrounded by lush greenery, insects and birds. Born in an urban theatre, this work will face a new outdoor performance environment. With his own thinking about the standards of drama performance, Pu Cunxin, as a co-producer, specially went to the rehearsal of the actors and shared with the actors the line skills such as breathing, vocalization, pronunciation, naturalization, and meaning, reminding the actors to use the vocal methods that are different from the small theater to completely release their voices in the valley to better convey them to the audience.
Pu Cunxin emphasized that dramas must have benchmarks, and even each drama genre must have its own benchmark, "The real wonderful parts of each drama genre must be retained, and it should not be attenuated." In addition, the creator must have an audience in his heart, and the responsibility of us contemporary artists is to have a relationship with the audience and establish a close connection. Only in this way can our artistic creation not be inferior to that of our predecessors. In fact, by doing a good job today, we are creating the future. Lv Opera, Ping Opera, Peking Opera ......If the creator of any drama can make young people feel 'good!'I want to learn', which means inheriting and carrying forward this art." Pu Cunxin also said: "We must respect dialects, respect local cultural characteristics, and respect national culture and traditional culture. I think that in the part of inheriting and protecting national culture, everyone has awakened. ”
Finally, Pu Cunxin emphasized that the audience should be valued. When talking about the relationship between drama and people's lives, Pu Cunxin believes: "The first element of drama is story, and the art of having a story is drama. When one day, drama is naturally integrated into our daily life stories, lifestyles, life logic, and life destiny like fashion, football, and **, then the purpose of 'drama is life' has been achieved. ”
He Saifei: "The nourishment of traditional opera has benefited me immensely".
He Saifei, a Yue Opera performance artist and Best Actress at the 36th China Film Golden Rooster Awards, also came to the Daliangshan Theater Festival. At the Qionghai beach, He Saifei participated in a dialogue with the theme of "Drama is Life, Drama is Us", and also gave a face-to-face lecture entitled "The Integration of Performing Arts" to theater lovers and practitioners from all over the country. Talking about his performance experience, He Saifei believes that good performances are the best in life, so performers need to "listen more, watch more, observe more, and accumulate more".
Nowadays, the Internet age has a great abundance of information, which makes it easier for performers to accumulate materials. He Saifei said that he is a loyal viewer of TV talk shows and documentary programs: "In the real shots, some of the subconscious actions and expressions of the parties are very exciting, which is the most real." Performers need to capture the most authentic reactions of these people. ”
He Saifei revealed that she loved Zweig's ** very much when she was young: his portrayal of the subtlety of human nature is amazing. She encourages young actors to read more books and read more high-quality **: good ** is a powerful guide, and actors can even perform according to the author's description and according to the map. ”
As a Yue Opera artist, He Saifei admits that he is very happy: "When I started to learn Yue Opera, I didn't have a big idea, I just felt that I liked the stage and acting. When I grew up, I found it really happy to be able to work on a career that I loved. ”
Over the years, He Saifei has participated in classic film and television works such as "The Red Lantern Hangs High", "Fengyue", "Mansion Gate", "The Secret History of Xiaozhuang", leaving behind, such as Mei Shan, Qinglou Woman Xiaocao, Hai Lanzhu and other popular roles. She said that this is inseparable from the nourishment of opera for herself. Talking about the opera she loves, He Saifei uses the words "beautiful" to describe the beauty of opera, she said: "The theme of traditional opera often contains the truth of life, the beauty of words in the lyrics, and the beauty of the rhyme in the singing......A good drama is a treasure trove. ”
In 2023, with the role of "Teacher Qi" in the movie "Chasing the Moon", He Saifei won the Best Actress at the 36th China Film Golden Rooster Awards. He Saifei's "Teacher Qi" was once a Yue Opera star, and when he was young, he became popular all over the country with the song "Running to the Moon". In the film, He Saifei gave full play to his Yue Opera skills. She said that not only "Chasing the Moon", in fact, she used the performance skills of opera in many film and television works, such as the role of "Little Calyx" in Chen Kaige's film "Wind and Moon", He Saifei used the Gong and Drum Sutra (the percussion notation method commonly used in traditional Chinese instrumental music and opera, also known as the "Gong Sutra", mainly uses the sound of drums, boards, big gongs, small gongs, cymbals, tang drums and other percussion sounds to combine into a variety of different rhythms, in order to set off the solemn, leisurely, lyrical, tense, intense, Panic and other different emotions and atmospheres), "I design the pace of the characters' actions according to the rhythm of the gongs and drums, and there is a feeling of panic and chaos in the performance." He Saifei also emphasized: "The use of these opera performance techniques in film and television works, performers need to be traceless and not let the audience see it, otherwise they will be unintelligent because they are deliberately artificial." ”
Finally, He Saifei said: "Dramatic art comes from life, the source of creation is life, and life is the state of existence of everyone outside of drama. As a theater person, it is necessary to use various performance skills to let the audience discover the beauty and happiness of life, which is the meaning of the existence of drama. ”
Tobias Bionconi "Loyalty to the soul is the key to the inheritance and development of national culture".
Since its inception in 2019, the Daliangshan Theatre Festival has established close ties and cooperation with the UNESCO International Theatre Institute (ITI).
According to Tobias Bianconi, Director General of the International Theatre Association, in today's world, people around the world are connected like never before through the Internet, through common **, movies and TV series, and at the same time, people are beginning to like to follow trends, ignoring the value of their own cultural roots, and their sense of cultural identity is being lost. Therefore, he appealed: "All peoples need to care about their own culture, and it cannot be just placed in a closed museum, but it needs to be brought to the people, to the young people." ”
Based on this concept, Tobias Bianconi said that ITI, as the world's largest performing arts organization, has been cooperating with the Daliangshan Theatre Festival since its inception in 2019, and this year, the cooperation between ITI and Daliangshan Theatre Festival has been strengthened again, so that the cultural identity of Daliangshan can be highlighted, and the cultural diversity of China and the world will be showcased." I would like to express my gratitude to every organizer and participant of the Daliangshan Theatre Festival for their consistent dedication to allowing us to experience the charm of theatre and performing arts."
"In 2019, when I came for the first time, I heard the singing of Yi singers, and saw Yi costumes and some other things with traditional national cultural elements. The people and local people here love and protect this place, so everyone can see such a beautiful landscape and traditional culture."
Tobias Bianconi believes that the world is enriched by its rich culture, and therefore, each nation needs to value its own culture. "We need to support those who truly care about their cultural identity, about the cultural heritage that our ancestors gave life to in the past years, about our own cultural expression," he appealed. ”
We have seen a lot of theater festivals, and I think the Daliangshan Theater Festival is very distinctive, it is different from any other theater festival in the world. The International Theatre Association will bring more foreign experts, guests and good dramas here, so that more foreign people can see the characteristics of the Daliangshan Theater Festival and see the different places in this land. Tobias Bianconi said that any festival will definitely have a difficult time at the beginning, but the organizers should have confidence and persistence: "As long as you keep moving forward on this path, find the unique points, find the problems, and constantly optimize and adjust, there will be a good result." ”
Tobias Bianconi told the Yangcheng Evening News reporter that the Daliangshan Theater Festival should reflect the spirit of the Chinese people and local culture, "whether it is inherited or carried forward, the most important point is to be loyal to its soul, to maintain its soul, not to erase its soul itself because of innovation."
In order to let the world see the Yi culture and hear the voice of the Yi people, the International Theatre Association (ITI) has joined hands with the China Theatre Association, the Daliangshan Theatre Festival and the Shanghai Theatre Academy to invite the outstanding artist from Samoa, Lemi Bonifasor, to create an artistic repertoire to help more people see the Yi culture. At present, the specific content is kept secret for the time being, but what can be told is that this work will not be a Western narrative, it will definitely be a work rooted in Chinese culture, which is worth looking forward to. ”
Highlight moment: opening in symphonic poem form, drama takes place in Liangshan".
The opening performance of this year's Daliangshan Theater Festival is the symphonic poem "Welcome to the World". With the call of Pu Cunxin, Li Ting, Huang Dingshan, and Li Bonan, four members of the Theater Festival Art Committee, "drama takes place in Liangshan", this comprehensive symphonic poem of the original ecology of the Yi, Tibetan, Naxi, and Mosuo people living in Liangshan brings together the diverse local ethnic arts of Daliangshan, showing a magnificent picture of the fusion of ancient and modern.
At the opening ceremony, the poem "Welcome Speech of the World" from the poet Ji Di Majia, the initiator of the theater festival, issued a theatrical invitation from Daliangshan to the world in the form of a stage. The reason why he chose the form of symphonic poems, Pu Cunxin said, he was moved by the Yi poem "Leopard", "You can't have such enjoyment in your life, you want to hold on to the leopard's brocade-like flesh ......."I believe that in 20 years I will experience such moments myself, and I will also enjoy the last moments and enjoy such fantasies. ”
During the performance, Pu Cunxin told the children to "love people" in the costume of an old man of the Yi nationality, and then performed the game between man and leopard with a bow and arrow in hand, sometimes showing people in a casual drama festival hoodie, and sometimes appearing in the ...... as a readerThe actors are dressed in various ethnic costumes and sit on the stage, presenting Yi recitation, leaf blowing, original ecological chorus, Yi high tone and other performance forms, the original ecological art of different ethnic groups and the performance of the Liangshan Symphony Orchestra complement each other, and the shy Mo Xizi poem sings another world outside the drama with a song "Ajlu", and the whole performance allows the audience to immerse themselves in listening to the most sincere sound of the magical land of Daliang Mountain.
During the rehearsal process with local actors, Pu Cunxin also helped the little girl who performed with him to survive the lonely moment in her life. "During the rehearsal, the little girl cried and refused to say the lines, we thought she was stage fright. Later, when I took her to the dressing room, she told her the truth: her friends at school were going to attend the opening ceremony with her, but she couldn't come at the time of the while, and she felt very lonely. So, the director team contacted urgently and asked her classmates to take a car out of the mountains and participate in the performance of the opening ceremony. ”
