On December 21, it was reported that after serving as Activision Blizzard CEO for more than 30 years, Bobby Kotick (Bobby Kotick) will officially step down on December 29 this year.
It is reported that in 1991, together with partner Brian Kelly, Kotick bought a 25% stake in Activision (then known as MediaGenic), and subsequently changed the company's name back to Activision and underwent a complete restructuring. In February 1991, he became the CEO of Activision Blizzard. Today, he has been the CEO of Activision Blizzard for 32 years and will leave the company on December 29.
Following Kotick's departure, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft's gaming business, will oversee Activision Blizzard. He said the leadership teams of Activision Publishing, Blizzard and King will remain the same, and there will be no changes to the operational structure of the studio and business units.
Kotick's departure comes two months after Microsoft completed a $68.7 billion deal to acquire Activision Blizzard after overcoming several regulatory hurdles.
After Microsoft officially announced its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Kotick said in a letter to Activision Blizzard employees that Spencer asked him to remain CEO of ABK and report back to him, and Kotick agreed that the task would be completed by the end of 2023. This means that Kotick will resign this year.
In addition to Kotick, two other Activision Blizzard executives will also be leaving: Blizzard and King Vice Chairman Hum Sakhni will leave at the end of December;Activision Blizzard's chief PR officer, Lulu Cheng Meservey, will leave at the end of January next year.
