Liu Shaoang was born in a mixed-race family, his mother is Hungarian, his father is a painter, and his father also hopes that Liu Shaoang and his brother Liu Shaolin can take over his brush, but Liu Shaoang, who has been learning Xi painting with his father since he was a child, is lively and active, has little interest in painting, but is full of curiosity about sports. With the purpose of strengthening the body and consuming energy, Liu Shaoang followed his brother to Xi learn to swim, and the brothers who were always choking on water and a little afraid of water finally gave up, and when the brothers followed their mother to visit the skating club, they were deeply attracted by the ice place, so Liu Shaoang and his brother started their own skating road.
Liu Shaoang came into contact with ice skating at the age of 7, in order to be able to pursue the extreme speed on the ice rink, he returned to Changchun, China to receive more systematic and rigorous training here, and regularly returned to China every year to train as his compulsory course, Liu Shaoang's speed skating performance also improved by leaps and bounds, becoming the highest level of speed skater in Hungary. The World Cup victory in short track speed skating and the title of World Championship champion made him one of the top ten outstanding Chinese athletes, while Liu Shaoang and his teammates performed even more impressively in the relay event, allowing Hungary to reach the top podium of the 5,000m short track speed skating relay at the Changping Winter Olympics. At the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Liu Shaoang won the men's 500m short track speed skating championship and shined on the Olympic stage. After winning the championship, Liu Shaoang and his brother Liu Shaolin changed their nationality and became a member of the Chinese speed skating team.
On December 10, 2023, Liu Shaoang won the championship in the men's 1000m final of the Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in Beijing, winning the championship for the Chinese team for the first time in this event.
