Gaborone, December 21 (Xinhua) -- The handover ceremony of the China-aided Botswana Meteorological Mobile Station was held in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, on December 21. Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Wang Xuefeng and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Botswana Grace Muzira cut the ribbon at the Meteorological Mobile Station.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of the meteorological mobile station, Wang Xuefeng said that China has been actively advocating and practicing South-South cooperation to address climate change. As one of the achievements of the "Nine Projects" of China-Bochuan cooperation, the meteorological mobile station delivered this time will provide strong support for Borussia's environmental monitoring, agricultural production and extreme weather disaster prevention, and help Boboa achieve the goal of sustainable environmental development.
On behalf of Bo, Muzira thanked China for its selfless assistance. Frequent droughts have exacerbated water scarcity in Botswana, negatively impacting people's health and productivity, she said. China's donation will help Bo cope with the impact of climate change, enhance its ability to protect life and property, reduce disaster risks, and maintain economic vitality.
In November 2020, China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment and Botswana's Ministry of Environment and Tourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding on South-South Cooperation on Climate Change. According to the MoU, China agreed to donate a set of mobile weather stations to Bo to help Bo improve its ability to cope with climate change. (ENDS).
