Corporate action is key to achieving climate goals. How can Chinese and foreign companies take action to promote the arrival of the "carbon neutrality era"?
During the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the "Sustainable Development Dialogue of Chinese and Foreign Entrepreneurs" was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on December 1.

Xie Zhenhua, China's special envoy for climate change, said here that the role of enterprises in achieving climate goals is very important, and the real solution to the problem depends on entrepreneurs to carry out technological innovation in the production process. Policies of various countries may change due to the rotation of the country, but as long as entrepreneurs identify development trends and identify innovative technologies, their cooperation will not be interrupted by geopolitical influences.
Despite the huge challenges of the global green and low-carbon transition, many entrepreneurs expressed confidence in the process and saw huge development opportunities.
The picture shows Fu Chengyu, founding president of the International Institute for Carbon Neutrality, giving a keynote speech. Fu Chengyu, former chairman of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation and founding president of the International Institute for Carbon Neutrality, said frankly that in the past few decades, China has made important achievements in the development of new energy and traditional energy and industrial transformation, but "it is more difficult later", because China's industrial system is huge, and reducing stock emissions has become a major challenge.
Let's not be intimidated by difficulties," Fu said, adding that China can take the path of green and low-carbon transformation by accelerating the development of new energy, vigorously improving energy efficiency, and re-arranging industries. In this process, China can improve the overall industrial development level through digitalization and intelligence, and make the "China opportunity" become the "world opportunity".

Wang Shi, Honorary Vice Chairman of the World Canal Historical and Cultural Cities Cooperation Organization (WCCO), Founder and Honorary Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vanke Group, and Chairman of Vanke Charity Association, said that as the executor and promoter of China's carbon emission reduction, he is full of confidence in China's carbon neutrality path. On the one hand, China exceeded its carbon emission reduction intensity target in 2020On the other hand, the potential for a carbon-neutral economy is huge. Taking real estate development as an example, cement is the largest carbon emitter in the building materials industry**, but according to the latest technology, carbon dioxide can be driven into cement and sequestered, significantly reducing its carbon footprint throughout its life cycle.
Francisco Ruiz-Tagle, president of Chilean paper giant CMPC, mentioned CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage) technology. Taking the paper industry as an example, he said, we see a huge opportunity to achieve CCUS, because we have forest land, which can be an important carbon sink, and we will also consider this development potential when we do business planning and production solutions, and we will use natural fibers and enhance the recycling of raw materials to make the industry greener.
Many entrepreneurs said that they have integrated the concept of sustainable development into the whole cycle of the industrial chain and value chain. Li Donghui, CEO of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, said that the company has integrated the concept of sustainability into the management of the entire value chain of the vehicle life cycle, and has developed a variety of low-carbon and environmentally friendly vehicles. For example, the ZEEKR model uses 15% renewable steel plate material and 25% renewable aluminum alloy materialGeely's pure electric brand Geely is expected to achieve full-link carbon neutrality by 2040.
Li Pengcheng, executive president of Mengniu Group and chairman of Mengniu Public Welfare Association, said that Mengniu is building a zero-carbon chain. As one of the leading companies in China's dairy industry, Mengniu has embarked on a "Scope 3" (indirect emissions related to operations and the ** chain) carbon reduction. Mengniu's Modern Dairy and China Shengmu have taken the lead in carrying out carbon inventory and carbon reduction in pastures, and Mengniu is also the first Chinese company to commit to achieving "zero deforestation" by 2030.
Tom Reichert, CEO of ILM Environmental Resources Management Consulting, said that as a service company, the company plans to achieve low-carbon development and net-zero emissions across the entire chain through travel optimization and the use of electric vehicles.
Jin Junhui, director of JA Solar Technology Co., Ltd., also said that the company has built a green whole industrial chain covering the life cycle of green raw materials, packaging, low-carbon logistics, dismantling, etc., and also cooperates with upstream and downstream to reduce carbon emissions.
Tan Deyuan, director of the World Canal Historical and Cultural Cities Cooperation Organization (WCCO) and general manager of Hengtong Group, said that Hengtong Group has built a near-zero energy building for the first time, and the project has passed the China near-zero energy label certification. Over the past 20 years, Hengtong Group's three-star green buildings have accounted for more than 80%, creating a "green and low-carbon community" project. Hengtong Group actively responds to the national strategy and vigorously develops distributed photovoltaic energy projects, and has expanded nearly 30 megawatts of photovoltaic power generation projects since the beginning of this year. It has also fully cooperated with central enterprises such as Huaneng Group and China Energy Construction to lay out the new energy sector and realize the integrated closed-loop industrial chain of light, storage and charging.
