My grandfather Liu Taishan was born in 1940, although the society was turbulent at that time, my grandfather firmly believed that knowledge changes destiny and was successfully admitted to Changde No. 1 Middle School. Due to the reasons of the times, the grandfather at that time was greatly excluded and suppressed, and in 1963, he moved around and came to the Yuannanyuan Water Conservancy Association (formerly Hefeng Dike Repair and Defense Association) as a water conservancy engineer.
In the 50s, the construction of water conservancy facilities was extremely rudimentary, and most of them fell into disrepair for many years and were seriously damaged. In order to keep the working people away from the suffering of drought and flood disasters, my grandfather did not lose his will, but inspired the pride of doing revolutionary work, and actively responded to the call of "water conservancy is the lifeblood of agriculture", worked hard, measured the fields with his feet every day, and the straw sandals wore out after a short time, and his feet were often blistered. Under such hard conditions, my grandfather never shouted that he was tired, and he always had endless energy, and he successively participated in the construction of water conservancy projects such as Jiangjiazui, Yanwanghu, Liuhezhou, and Gejinkou. The formation and continuous improvement of the irrigation network has solved the problems of agricultural water use and drought resistance, and has also laid a solid foundation for the subsequent development of water conservancy. Grandpa clearly remembers that at the end of the sixties of the last century, Hanshou County began the construction of the embankment of the Xuhong River. The construction of the river was extremely arduous. In the era of the lack of modern mechanical tools, people had to rely on the most primitive tools and methods to accomplish this task. They used simple farm tools such as hoes, shovels, and flat poles to dig and carry soil, and even needed manpower to transport materials and equipment from a long distance to the construction site, and in the absence of large transport vehicles, we could only use "chicken buses" to transport stones, and with enthusiasm, a section of standard flood control embankments was built in more than 40 days. In my grandfather's generation, I saw a feeling of "revolutionary enthusiasm and pride".
In 1986, my father Liu Biao entered the Liuhezhou Water Conservancy Group through open recruitment, and the simple and repetitive work initially made my father a little uncomfortable, and gradually came up with the idea that "guarding the embankment is a performance of no interest". The 22-year-old father was deeply touched and secretly made up his mind that he must be a good grassroots water conservancy person. Spring digging, spring water, water conservancy repair, flood control facilities construction ......Since then, my father has taken over the baton from my grandfather, and together with everyone, he is stationed in the water conservancy group every day, and the unit is in charge, and all the things at home are handed over to my mother. Although the working conditions were difficult and the wages were not high, the pressure of life did not overwhelm my parents, who watched me thrive day by day and became more motivated. After surviving those difficult years, now, my father, who is about to retire, is still stationed on the front line of grassroots water conservancy work, leading the new generation of water conservancy workers forward with his accumulated rich experience. In my father's generation, I saw a kind of perseverance of "hard work and not afraid of poverty".
Liu Biao and his son Liu Yipeng went to the inlet gate of Lujiao Mountain in Hanshou County to monitor the water level and carry out inspections of buildings crossing the embankment.
Born in 1995, I gave up life in a first-tier city to follow in the footsteps of my grandfather and father, and also chose the water conservancy industry. After passing the open recruitment, I have been rooted in the front line, following the path taken by my predecessors, and only then did I truly understand the difficulties of my grandfather and father's generations of water conservancy people, and I also had infinite admiration from my heart. In recent years, along with the reform of water conservancy, the times have given new functions and responsibilities to water conservancy. I deeply feel that to do a good job in water conservancy work in the new era, in addition to inheriting and carrying forward the passion of the older generation of water conservancy people, it is also necessary for the new generation of water conservancy people to continue to innovate and make breakthroughs and build the spirit of water conservancy in the new era. Now, my grandfather is old, my father is about to retire, as a new generation of water conservancy people, I will also keep in mind the original intention and mission of water conservancy people, down-to-earth, continue to learn and grow Xi up, and inherit and continue this profound water conservancy feeling.
