The outline level refers to the hierarchy of headings in a document, such as first-level headings, second-level headings, and so on. Once the outline level is set, we can use the navigation pane to quickly locate different parts of the document, and we can also use the outline view to view and edit the structure of the document. Open the Word document and select the paragraphs for which you want to set the outline level.
In the "Home" tab, find the "Paragraphs" group and click the "Outline level" drop-down button.
Select the level of outline you want to set, such as Level 1, Level 2, and so on.
Once you've set it up, you can switch to the Outliner in the View tab to see the outline structure of the document.

Open the Word document and place your cursor over the paragraph you want to set as the first-level heading.
In the Home tab, find the Styles group and click the Heading 1 style.

By styling, you can quickly set the outline level. Switch to the Navigation Pane in the View tab, where you can view and edit the structure of the document.
