On December 16th, with a low temperature of nearly zero degrees, in Xianghe Village, Longtan Town, Huayuan County, the blazing firewood roasted me warmly. In my warmth, I listened to a 90-year-old man tell the story of the battlefield to resist US aggression and aid Korea more than 70 years ago. In the story, he mentions being cold, being cold, being hungry, and being hungry many times. This old man is Wu Yanggui.
Wu Yanggui, formerly known as Wu Shibin, was born in September 1933 in Limei Village, Longtan (now changed to Xianghe Village).
The old man's ears are fine, and his speech is a little slow and incoherent. I have pain in both knees, I can't stand up, and I usually sit.
The old man recalled: I have three brothers, I am the third, and there is an eldest sister on my head.
I became a soldier in the first month of 1951, when I called for the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. I want to be a soldier, and my parents support me. There is danger in being a soldier, and we thought of it, how can we be afraid to resist US aggression and aid Korea? There are 4 of us Li Mei who went to serve as soldiers together, among which Long Shengming is 1 year older than me. We wore big red flowers and walked from Longtan to Huayuan. They and I are in the same company, both of which are 47th Battalion and 4th Company of the 416th Regiment of the 139th Division of the 4th Army. I went to the second platoon and the 4th squad, and they went to the other squads and platoons, and they were all fighters.
He went to Changsha to study for a month, conducted military training, and then went to resist US aggression and aid Korea. We took the train, the car, walked and crossed the bridge, and finally came to North Korea. Before entering the court, each of us was issued a straw hat and **, one person was issued two or three bullets, and one board had five bullets. Mine is a medium-formal rifle, more than a meter long.
We rested during the day and marched at night, and the North Korean side was full of dirt roads, bombed by planes, shells, and bomb craters everywhere, and it was not easy to walk at night.
The enemy often bombs us by planes. When the plane came, we hid in the tunnel. My comrades-in-arms are big, very miserable, and easy to do evil, if you want to talk about which battles are fought and how to fight, I can't talk about it, I can't remember a lot of things.
The most bitter thing about resisting US aggression and aiding Korea was that there was no food. We eat, we eat raw, we eat fried rice, we eat whole grains. In the winter, it was very cold, and we lived in bomb shelters, and our hands, feet, and ears were very cold. What should I do if it's cold?Just rub it with your hands, and there is no other way.
Later, I worked as a communicator in the communications company of the logistics department, delivering information to company commanders and platoon commanders. At that time, it was not enough, I didn't have a gun. But I was fast, reflexed, and didn't get hurt at all.
The four of us Li Mei joined the army together, and all four of them were transferred.
Today, Wu Yanggui, who has gone through the test of life and death, lives with his son in the relocation house of Xianghe Village, the husband and wife are long-lived, the children and grandchildren are full, the life is prosperous, and the life is as peaceful and healthy as the name of the village.
