Session 6 of the Peer Support Group for Mild Older Persons with Cognitive Impairment

In order to promote communication among the elderly, establish a peer support network, and enhance the confidence of the elderly in their future life, on December 19, 2023, with the support and guidance of the Chengdu Civil Affairs Bureau, the Chengdu Social Organization Community and Social Work Talent Service Center, the Jinniu District Civil Affairs Bureau, Yingmen Street, and the Chadian Community, Chengdu Datong social workers launched the sixth session of the Peer Support Group for the Mild Elderly with Cognitive Impairment, and invited 15 elderly people to participate.

At the beginning of the activity, the social worker led the elderly to review the learning Xi content of the past five weeks to help them deepen their memory of the group activities. In the warm-up session, the social worker designed a game of "Drum Knock Knock" to guide the elderly to quickly make corresponding movements in different drum sounds, which not only exercised the elderly's reaction ability, but also enlivened the group atmosphere.

In today's activity, social workers joined the song discussion and the ** drifting bottle session to promote communication among the elderly and the establishment of a peer support network. After listening to "Listen to My Mother Tell About the Past", Granny Zhuang said: "After listening to this song, I feel that my past suffering is nothing at all. Thanks to the party and the leadership, we have such a good life. Immediately, the newly joined Granny Yang added: "This song is also educational, educating us to cherish our current life." The social worker affirmed and praised the wonderful answers of the elderly, and expressed sincere gratitude to the older generation for their hard work. **In the drifting bottle session, the old people used words and pictures to tell their life stories, such as childhood anecdotes and memories of the land. Through the sharing of the elderly, everyone has a deeper understanding of each other, and looks forward to a better future together.

In this group activity, each elderly person bravely expressed their ideas and actively participated in the interaction with full enthusiasm. In the discussion of songs and the review of life stories, the elders found empathy and a deeper understanding of each other, and their peer support network was further developed. So far, the six-week peer support group for people with mild elderly cognitive impairment has come to a successful conclusion, but the peer support services for cognitive impairment will continue, and the peer support network will be further consolidated and expanded through follow-up services.
