Weifang Medical College is a full-time general medical college in Shandong Province, and is a university jointly established by the Shandong Provincial Department of Education, Shandong Provincial Health Commission and Weifang City. On November 20, the Development Planning Department of the Ministry of Education issued an announcement saying that in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Higher Education Law of the People's Republic of China, the Interim Regulations on the Establishment of Ordinary Colleges and Universities, and the Interim Regulations on the Establishment of Ordinary Undergraduate Schools, as well as the results of the inspection and evaluation of the Eighth National Evaluation Committee for the Establishment of Colleges and Universities, the Party Group Meeting of the Ministry of Education deliberated and agreed to set up five schools including Anhui Public Security College.

Among the contents of the announcement is the renaming of Bengbu Medical College to Bengbu Medical University. The publicity time is from November 20 to November 24, 2023.

In July 1958, in order to speed up the construction of Anhui Province and change the situation that the people in northern Anhui were short of medical treatment and medicine, the state decided to establish Bengbu Medical College with the assistance of the former Shanghai Second Medical College (now Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine) and Anhui Medical College (now Anhui Medical University).

In recent years, Bengbu Medical College has been working to change its name to a university. According to the school's official website, Hebei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1956, originally known as Hebei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, located in Baoding City, Hebei Province, in 1957 began to recruit undergraduate students majoring in traditional Chinese medicine, and in 1958 was named Hebei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1962, it merged with Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the school was named Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was affiliated to Hebei Province. In 1969, Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was reorganized and moved to Shijiazhuang City, and merged with Hebei Medical College to form Hebei New Medical University. In 1983, the independent setting was restored and enrollment began. In 1995, it merged with Hebei Medical College and Shijiazhuang Medical College to form Hebei Medical University. According to the official website of the college, Chongqing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was formerly known as Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Training School founded by the Ministry of Health of the Southwest Military and Political Commission in 1951, and was successively renamed Chongqing School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chongqing School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Sichuan Province. In 2001, Chongqing School of Traditional Chinese Medicine was merged into Chongqing Medical University as a whole, and the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Chongqing Medical University was established.
