Dogs, man's most loyal friends, have also become a nightmare for some. They are intelligent and alert, but they show the ferocious side of the beast when confronted with vulnerable people. More than once, we have heard that dogs have bitten women and children, and how should we protect our families from such incidents?
On December 5, a little boy in Ji'an, Jiangxi Province, was on his way to buy breakfast when he encountered a large dog without a leash. The dog suddenly lunged at him, knocking him to the ground and biting him. The surrounding people rushed to the rescue and finally drove the dog away. The little boy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and deep wounds on his forehead, left eye, lips, and face, and after surgery, he underwent 90 stitches. What caused the outrage of the owners of the complex was that the dog had already bitten 13 people before that, and the boy was the most seriously injured. However, the dog's owner never showed up, so the residents of the community angrily chased the dog and was eventually shot dead by the police.
Regarding the problem of dog bites, we have to note that dogs seem to prefer to bite vulnerable groups, especially women and children. This is not an isolated case. In a residential area in Chongzhou City, Sichuan, a black dog pounced on a mother with her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. The mother struggled to get her daughter back from the dog's mouth, however, the dog still jumped up and bit the girl. The girl's internal organs were broken, her ribs were broken, her kidneys were ruptured, and her body suffered serious injuries.
Again, I've experienced this firsthand. At the time, my daughter was two years old and we went to see a private clinic. However, when we opened the door, we saw that their big yellow dog was not on a leash. When the yellow dog saw me holding the child, he didn't pounce, but pounced directly on my wife. The wife was so frightened that she ran in circles around the yard and eventually ran into the house, while the yellow dog gave chase. Luckily, the doctor's family arrived and chased the yellow dog away. This incident made me deeply realize the horror of dog bites.
Why are it mainly women and children who are bitten by dogs?The reason for this can be explained in several ways.
First of all, dogs naturally like to chase, and for women and children, their movements are relatively slow, which makes it easier to attract the attention of dogs, and thus be chased and bitten.
Secondly, dogs show a certain fear of strong men. In the previously mentioned case, we can see that the dog did not show aggression towards the little boy, but chose to attack his mother. This may be because dogs are afraid to challenge strong men and choose to attack vulnerable women and children.
In addition, dogs are more likely to feel nervous and fearful of unfamiliar environments and people, which may also be one of the reasons why they bite women and children. Women and children are often the targets of dogs' exposure in unfamiliar environments, so they are easy targets.
First of all, we should strengthen the management of dog ownership. For undocumented dogs, those who keep dogs without permission, and do not vaccinate dogs, should be severely punished. Only by increasing the constraints on dog ownership behavior can the occurrence of dog bite incidents be effectively reduced.
Secondly, for the owner of the dog biting the person, the legal responsibility must be investigated. They are not only liable for civil damages, but also criminally liable. Only through severe legal punishment can dog owners be made aware of the responsibilities and obligations of owning dogs, thereby reducing the occurrence of dog bite incidents.
Finally, I am in favor of banning dogs in the city. Of course, a ban on dogs shouldn't be one-size-fits-all, but if more than half of the owners of the community vote in favor of the ban, it can be implemented in the community, which has legal effect, just like the village rules and civil law. At the same time, the behavior of urban dogs should be strictly regulated, dogs must be leashed when walking, and every dog must be vaccinated. Only in this way can the safety of women and children be better protected.
As human friends, dogs bring us endless joy and companionship. However, we also cannot ignore the dangers they can pose to us. In the process of protecting women and children, we must not rely on the "scheming" of dogs, but on our own efforts and responsibilities. It is hoped that by strengthening the management of dog ownership behavior and formulating more scientific laws and regulations, we can reduce the occurrence of dog bite incidents and protect the safety of our families.
