The top AI companies in the United States have a large annual salary**!
OpenAI's 6 million topped the list, while Microsoft and Nvidia are only half of OpenAI.
Recently, Rora, a company in the United States that helps doctoral students negotiate salaries, released a salary report, revealing the average salary offered by these top AI companies to researchers.
Let's take a look at some of the top AI companies and the average salaries they pay researchers.
As the hottest and most successful AI startup in 2023, OpenAI tops the list in terms of salary.
Openai gave the researcher a prescription of 86The sky-high price of an annual salary of 50,000 US dollars is equivalent to about 6 million yuan. This annual salary includes 66$50,000 in initial compensation, plus a 30% salary increase after negotiation.
Interestingly, OpenAI's leadership doesn't seem to be paid as much as researchers.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman earned just $73,546 a year last year.
Co-founder and president Greg Brockman earns $113727 a year;
Co-founder and Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever earns $334572 per year.
Anthropic, the creator of the Claude 2 model, is probably OpenAI's biggest competitor and was founded by former OpenAI researchers Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei.
Anthropic also pays its researchers handsomely, at 85An annual salary of $50,000 ranks second on the list.
Interestingly, during the previous OpenAI infighting, OpenAI's board members allegedly entered into possible negotiations with Dario Amodei in the hope of making him the company's CEO, but he refused.
As the creator of the friendliest and most personalized chatbot PI, Inflection also pays well. Although the initial compensation is unknown, Inflection pays its engineers an average of $82 per year$50,000 in compensation.
Founded by former DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman and renowned investor Steve Ballmer, Inflection has a small team of 35 researchers and is currently valued at $4 billion.
Tesla, founded by Musk, may have provided a lot of resources for XAI (the company behind Grok). Tesla pays its researchers $780,000 a year.
If you look at this, you'll find that the top AI startups in the U.S. are paid more than all the tech giants pay.
Amazon is the highest-paid tech giant of them all, with an annual salary of $71$90,000.
Two research companies under Google's parent company, Alphabet, pay their researchers differently. Google Brain, although merged with Deepmind, offers 69$50,000 per year.
Whereas, Google Research gives an annual salary of 54$90,000, of which up to 77% is salary from salary increases.
On the other hand, after the merger with Google Brain, Deepmind, the "brain" behind the recent Gemini model, pays its researchers $51 per year$50,000 with an initial compensation of $45$20,000, a 13% salary increase.
Meta AI, formerly known as FAIR, focuses on artificial intelligence research, and this year Meta AI led the open source of the LLAMA series of models, making great contributions to the open source community.
Meta AI opened a 55$60,000 in compensation.
Apple's pay is almost half that of OpenAI, which is surprising considering the difference in valuation between the two companies. Apple's initial compensation was $33$70,000 and pays its researchers $450,000 per year, a 33% salary increase.
The annual salary offered by Microsoft Research is almost the same as Apple's, but only half of that of its self-funded OpenAI. While it gives an initial compensation of $270,000 and a whopping 66% pay increase, the final compensation is only 44$90,000.
This may be one reason why OpenAI researchers didn't actually want to go to Microsoft when the OpenAI coup happened.
As the biggest winner of the AI race, Nvidia will achieve a $1 trillion valuation, all thanks to betting on AI graphics cards. Nvidia paid researchers a total of $390,000.
IBM Research, which seeks a balance between quantum computing and artificial intelligence, pays its researchers $37$70,000 in annual compensation.
hugging face
Last on the list of salary rankings is the champion of the open source track - Hugging Face. Hugging Face pays $23 per year to its researchers$80,000 in compensation.
