But on the other hand, they are eager to get rid of all the cultural exports from the West, even an ordinary traditional festival. What's more, the introduction of Christmas into China can actually constitute a good complement to our own traditional festivals. I'm not a disciple, but I like to go to church at Christmas, because the atmosphere is really good, and when the Christmas bell rings, the pastor will ask everyone: Please wish everyone a Merry Christmas to the people around you, whether you know each other or not. So many strangers can bless each other and even get to know each other in this atmosphere. I think this is a very good comfort for young people who are adrift in the big city and have no relatives. Agrarian societies, especially small-scale peasant economies, are based on family production, so the festivals that have arisen and succeeded in preserving and being valued in this society must give priority to the coordination of kinship relations. But the problem lies precisely in the fact that China has already completed industrialization and urbanization, and the production units of an urbanized society are social attributes, not families. People living in this kind of society have an objective need to communicate with other people in the society who are originally strangers to each other and comfort each other with the help of festivals.
