This well-deserved national weapon is also an important embodiment of a country's industry. In 2002, the national "863" plan was established for the first time to carry out research on the key technologies of shield machines, which opened the prelude to the independent research and development of shield machines at the national level. In order to break the monopoly of foreign technology, China Railway Tunnel Group was commissioned to develop China's own shield machine, and Hong Kairong undertook the key research and development task of shield cutter cutterhead. After 7 years of hard work, China's independent design and manufacture of "China Railway No. 1" shield machine was born in China Railway Tunnel Group, and China has become one of the few countries in the world that can produce advanced tunnel boring machines. Among them, Hong Kairong led the design and development of the cutter head, more advanced than foreign products, more practical, but the cost is lower, this technical achievement won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2011, but also changed the "foreign shield" monopoly in the Chinese market. The unremitting accumulation of technology stems from the absolute confidence in technological innovation. Hong Kairong led the innovation team not only to independently develop and produce shields, but also to dare to operate on "foreign brands". In 2011, the construction of Gansu Longzhong water supply project entered the most critical period, and the "foreign shield" was shut down because it did not adapt to the geological conditions, and foreign manufacturers were helpless in the face of problems. The innovation team completed the diagnosis of "foreign shield" in the shortest possible time, and completed the remanufacturing in only 3 months, and the performance of the whole machine was greatly improved, creating a world record of 1868 meters of monthly tunneling, and exceeding 1,000 kilometers of excavation for 8 consecutive months. Nowadays, the "China Railway" series shield machine has played a major role in the construction of national rail transit by virtue of its advantages of low failure rate, high control accuracy and reasonable cost. Impressive results are not achieved overnight. As early as the mid-to-late 90s of the last century, Hong Kairong participated in China's first submarine gas storage project โโโ Shantou LPG project as a technical backbone. The research results of the project "Construction Technology of Large-scale Underground Water Sealed Liquefied Petroleum Gas Storage Cavern" presided over by Hong Kairong won the first prize of China Construction Science and Technology Award in 2004, which is of far-reaching significance in the construction of energy storage and underground caverns. In the construction of Metro Line 2, China Railway Tunnel Group undertook the construction task of the section from Yuexiu Park to Sanyuanli, which was technical, risky and challenging. As the technical leader, Hong Kairong led the technical personnel to make major breakthroughs in the development of shield segments, muck improvement, foaming agent and large-tonnage electric frequency locomotives, which effectively promoted the shield construction process.
