14 years ago, when a foreign company put forward the request of "transforming the automatic control system of the production line must invest tens of millions of yuan" was rejected by the company, no one expected that this transformation technology would be completed by an instrument maintenance worker. Immersed in the front line of production and scientific research for 32 years, Pan Chengzhong, assistant director of the Liaoning Qingyang Special Chemical Testing Center, researcher-level senior engineer and senior technician, has participated in more than 10 major engineering construction projects, saving nearly 10 million yuan for the enterprise, won the honorary titles of national model worker and "Liaoning craftsman", and has become an expert enjoying special allowances.

In 1991, Pan Chengzhong graduated from Beijing Institute of Technology with a major in automatic control and entered Qingyang Chemical Industry, a subsidiary of China North Industries Group.

In 2009, Qingyang Chemical decided to carry out technical transformation of the automatic control system of the production line according to the actual needs of production. This arduous task finally fell on the shoulders of Pan Chengzhong, the backbone of the technology.

After receiving the project, Pan Chengzhong consulted hundreds of drawings of the automatic control system of the production line, conducted a field inspection of the production line, modified the drawings on the spot, and gradually had a new idea of localization of the automatic control system.

During the construction of the project, Pan Chengzhong organized the scientific research team to digest and absorb more than one million words of technology, equipment and other materials provided by foreign parties, and carefully organized the development and commissioning of process control software. Since the production line was officially put into operation, it has been running smoothly and has achieved the goal of automation and continuous transformation.

By carrying out the localization of the automatic control system, the actual investment of the project has been reduced by millions of yuan, and at the same time, it has also cultivated and exercised a group of scientific and technological talents for the enterprise, and more importantly, it has created a precedent for the localization of similar projects, and provided experience for reference for the construction of similar projects of brother units.

From the production line to the top of innovation.

After graduating from university and entering the factory, Pan Chengzhong realized, "I have not disassembled, installed and debugged the instrument, and I can't really understand the application and design of automatic control technology." So, he came to the instrument workshop to practice his skills with the master.

Over the course of more than 6 years, he learned to use tools and to maintain, repair, modify, debug and test instrumentation and automation control systems.

Due to the extremely high safety risk in the development of weapons products, equipment failures must be eliminated as soon as possible. To this end, Pan Chengzhong "loaded" more than 300 instrument data on the production line into his brain.

Once, a key piece of equipment suddenly abnormalized in the process of scientific research and trial production, and the dangerous goods were stranded in the kneading pot, which posed a major safety risk.

Pan Chengzhong was ordered to rush to the production site. This imported equipment has been running for more than 20 years, Pan Chengzhong analyzed the operating principle, internal structure, supporting facilities and other facilities of the kneading machine on the spot, and screened each instrument, each wire and every part one by one. The next day, the kneader resumed normal production.

Rooted in the front line of production and scientific research for a long time, Pan Chengzhong has obtained the title of researcher-level senior engineer and the skill level of senior technician of two types of work: instrument maintenance worker and chemical general control engineer.

The integration of technical skills has given Pan Chengzhong the confidence to further upgrade the production line.

At the beginning of 2016, the national key project led by a university won the special prize of national scientific and technological progress, and Qingyang Chemical is one of the main research units of the project. In the development of the automatic discharge valve at the bottom of the reactor in the pilot stage, the safety risk of new product development is extremely high. Pan Chengzhong, who not only has a great understanding of the production line, but also has experience in tackling key problems, quickly made a breakthrough. He drew on the working principle of the safety discharge device of the previous production line, put forward the idea of customizing the integrated pneumatic upper expansion valve, and completed the processing and installation of the first integrated pneumatic upper expansion valve through joint design with cooperative units, which laid the foundation for the pilot research of this key project.

A new challenge for the skill "Veteran".

In 2013, "Pan Chengzhong Automatic Control Instrument Skill Master Workstation" was established. Pan Chengzhong led the team members of the workstation to carry out research in DCS technology, PLC technology, field instrument related technology, etc., saving millions of yuan in engineering construction investment for the enterprise, and effectively solving the technical problems in automatic control instruments and computer control systems. Since 2015, the master workstation has completed 26 process innovations and 7 skill breakthroughs, and 2 of the team members have been rated as Qingyang chemical technology leaders and 5 people have been rated as Qingyang chemical technology leaders.

Pan Chengzhong also led the team to participate in the China North Industries Group Chemical General Control Worker Vocational Skills Competition and the Beihua Group Instrument Maintenance Worker Vocational Skills Competition, 3 of the team members won the top 10 in the North Industries Group Chemical General Control Worker Vocational Skills Competition, and 3 people won the top 5 in the Beihua Group Chemical Instrument Maintenance Worker Vocational Skills Competition. He also led the team as a coach to participate in the team competition of the China North Industries Group Chemical General Control Engineer Vocational Skills Competition, and the team won the top 4.

Beginning in 2023, the company will implement the special transformation of the production line "man-machine isolation, machine substitution, and black light factory", as the leader of the overall planning process automation program, Pan Chengzhong is not only responsible for the design and installation of the production line, but also to cultivate a team that understands technology and can operate.
