China Youth Daily Client News (Xi Huang Lizhen, China Youth Daily, China Youth Network Reporter Ren Mingchao) Recently, the reporter learned from the eighth joint committee meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion Agreement on Facilitating the Cross-border Transport of Goods and Persons that China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, members of the Greater Mekong Subregion, will have new ways of connectivity.
It is understood that the Greater Mekong Subregion is geographically close, people-to-people and culturally connected. In recent years, the member countries of the sub-region have relied on bilateral and multilateral mechanisms such as the Joint Committee of the Transport Facilitation Committee to strengthen communication and practical cooperation, and the "hard connectivity" of infrastructure and the "soft connectivity" of systems and rules have made simultaneous efforts, reducing transport and obstacles, promoting the effective flow of goods, capital, technology and personnel, and laying a good foundation for promoting the healthy and sustainable development of the sub-region's economy and society.
The Memorandum of Understanding on the Addition of Routes and Ports of Entry and Exit to Protocol I of the Agreement on the Facilitation of Cross-Border Transport of Goods and People in the Greater Mekong Subregion was signed during the meeting. After the MoU comes into effect today, the member states of the Greater Mekong Subregion will accelerate the opening of the revised routes and border crossings, and actively explore the extension of other routes and border crossings, so as to further consolidate the cross-border transport network of the Greater Mekong Subregion and promote the common prosperity and development of the Greater Mekong Subregion.
