The battle for AI supremacy heats up, and experts warn of danger to humanity

The "big AI era" opened by ChatGPT has made many technology giants see huge business opportunities, so they are competing to invest a lot of resources to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI), which makes the AI race enter a white-hot stage, causing concerns among experts and society.

The race intensified after OpenAI fired the company's CEO, Sam Altman, and brought it back. The reason is that Altman's return is tantamount to a victory for the "effective accelerationism" in Silicon Valley culture, and many Silicon Valley tech companies are supporters of this doctrine.

Proponents of effective accelerationism argue that technological progress can be pursued at any cost, without any guardrails or gatekeepers blocking innovation, and advocate harnessing the power of capital to drive fundamental social change. A few days ago, these advocates of effective accelerationism hung banners such as "Hurry up or die" and "Come on, accept it" at an openai party to promote their ideas.

However, this unbridled development and competition raises fears that it will lead to a situation that will spiral out of control.

Major tech companies are rolling out more advanced AI

Many tech companies have launched stronger and newer AIs, hoping that their AI can surpass the latest ChatGPT and other AI technologies and become leaders in the AI industry in one fell swoop.

Not long after Google launched its own Bard chatbot this year, it announced the birth of its AI "Gemini" in a video in early December. Gemini was officially launched on December 15 and offers free multimodal features for the user experience.

Google also said on its official website that the "Gemini" AI surpasses ChatGPT's GPT-4 model in mathematics, images, reasoning, voices, etc., but some people react that Google's video is likely to mislead the audience, making people really think that AI can interact with people without barriers.

In this regard, Google admits that in order to make the presentation more concise, the output time of "Gemini" was shortened, so the "Gemini" in the film is not an instant response, but is formed by the editing of the still frame of the original film with text prompts. But it is undeniable that "Gemini" is much stronger than the original Brad.

In addition to this, Microsoft is also actively developing its own AI Copilot. They invested heavily in OpenAI and used their partnership to make it possible for search software on Windows to connect with ChatGPT.

Recently, Copilot has also made updates and upgrades, and has now used GPT-4Turbo and the upgraded DALL-E3 image module, so that it has stronger functions such as voice dialogue, image recognition and search, because the old version of Copilot has better capabilities than GPT-3 in all aspects of AI ability testing5 and Google's Bard AI is much inferior.

In addition, at the end of November, Amazon launched the "Amazon Q" AI chatbot for enterprises, which is designed for employees in IT, software, customer service and other fields, and its skills include summarizing meetings, interpreting code and finding information from hundreds of company documents.
