If you encounter a situation where the gray shading cannot be removed in Word, you can try the following methods:

1.Check text formatting:

Select the Chinese version and check if the shading format is applied. On the Home tab, in the Font group, click the Shading button and make sure the Shading option is set to No Color.

2.Check paragraph formatting:

Select the paragraph in the Chinese text to see if shading is applied. In the "Paragraph" group of the "Home" tab, click the "Borders & Shading" button, select the "Shading" tab in the dialog box that pops up, and make sure the Shading option is set to "No Color".

3.Check the page background:

On the Design tab, in the Page Background group, click the Page Color button and make sure the page color is set to No Color.

4.Check the document subject:

If a theme is applied to the document, shading may not be removed. On the Page Layout tab, in the Theme group, select the Theme drop-down menu and try switching to a different theme to see if the shading disappears.

5.Clear Formatting:

Select the Chinese book, and in the Font group of the Home tab, click the Clear Formatting button to try to clear all formatting of the text, including shading.

Hopefully, the above steps will help you effectively remove gray shading.
