Aston Villa played Burnley at home in the 20th round of the Premier League, and a thrilling game kicked off in the early hours of December 31 Beijing time. Leon Baile broke the deadlock in the first half, before Amdouni's volley quickly levelled the scores, with a goal from Moussa Diaby putting Villa back in the lead.

In the second half, Forster levelled again but Douglas Luiz eventually scored from the penalty spot to give Villa a 3-2 win over Burnley. The win put Villa on 42 points from 20 games, the team's best start to the 21st century.

Since the start of the Premier League season, Villa have gradually settled in the top three of the table and are very close to the top. Back-to-back home wins over Manchester City and Arsenal made it 15 consecutive home wins in the Premier League across the season.

However, Villa have been on a winless run of their last two games, including the last one on the road, when they were beaten by Manchester United with three goals in a row after leading by two goals. Unai Emery's winless run at Old Trafford continues, with three draws and four defeats in seven appearances.

Back at home, Villa welcome Burnley, who are second from bottom in the table, and for them it will be crucial to win this game. In the match, Leon Bailey, Amdouni and Moussa Diaby scored in the 28th, 31st and 42nd minutes respectively.

Watkins' two assists in the game were instrumental, and his performance took his tally to eight individual assists in the Premier League this season, ahead of Mohamed Salah, Netto and Kieran Trippier to top the assist charts.

Forster levelled Burnley again in the 71st minute, but it was Douglas Luiz who converted the penalty in the 90th minute to make it 3-2 for Villa, sending the fans into a boil and boss Unai Emery roaring in celebration.

Villa enjoyed 67 per cent possession, had 19 shots, seven of them on target, created six corners and three great chances, and delivered 17 crosses, all of which were well ahead of Burnley.

The win extended Villa's excellent home run to 17 consecutive home games without beating, with 16 wins and one draw. Defending champions Manchester City also emerged victorious after Villa's victory, and the gap between the top four teams in the table was further narrowed.

The Premier League is very tense at the moment, with Liverpool and Villa both on 42 points, while Manchester City and Arsenal have accumulated 40 points each (with one game to come). The battle for the title is chaotic, with the biggest points gap being just 2 points.
