According to Reuters on December 26, the British Office of Maritime Operations said that shortly after the discovery of the two drones, a ship sailing off the coast of Yemen reported two incidents in the Red Sea.
According to the report, the British Maritime Operations Office said in a briefing that it occurred in the Red Sea, about 80 kilometers from the port of Hodeidah on the west coast of Yemen, and only 8 kilometers from the above-mentioned ship.
The ship's identity, details of the cargo on board and the location to which it sailed to or from were not disclosed, the report said.
The U.K.'s maritime operations office said the ship was in contact with coalition forces and that both the vessel and crew were said to be safe.
The report notes that a week before the incident, the United States announced a multinational maritime security initiative in the Red Sea in response to attacks by Yemen's Houthi groups on incoming ships.
Since October, the Houthis have launched attacks on merchant ships sailing in the Red Sea. According to the group, this is in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip who are under Israeli siege.
The Houthis said it targeted ships linked to Israel and ships bound for Israel, and warned shipping companies not to deal with Israeli ports. To this end, several shipping companies have suspended operations through the Red Sea shipping lanes and detoured to Africa.
According to the report, the Houthis have vowed to continue their attacks until Israel stops the war. It also warned that if the group was attacked, it would launch an attack on U.S. ships. (Compiled by Yang Xuelei).
