In mid-July, the Municipal People's Procuratorate set up the Wanshan Islands Procuratorate Office, and Wang Hongqiang, the director, said that everyone is a staff member of the Wanshan Procuratorate and should go to Guishan Island. As a leader in charge, he believes that the comrades' suggestions are quite reasonable. So, the group first came to Guishan Island, which was still relatively backward at that time. They visited Xian 56, a national model worker, who was raising fish in cages and greeted everyone enthusiastically in Cantonese.
The ** office of Guishan Island Town is a three-story building, and the procuratorate visited them first. Comrade Deng Qunfang, director of the office, invited them to dinner at the only restaurant on the island, and after they had their fill, they went to the place where the Guishan ship was fighting. Looking back at that year, Chiang Kai-shek included the so-called "remnants of the navy" including six companies withdrawn from Hainan Island, with a total of 30 ships and more than 9,000 people, and established the Shengling Capital of the Southern Guangdong Defense Division, waiting for the opportunity to set up an outlet to the sea on the "mainland". Our army was quickly transferred to defend this place and became the bridgehead of the mainland in the opinion of Chiang Kai-shek.
At the naval base, our troops were determined to launch an offensive against the enemy. As a cargo ship in Guangzhou City, the Guishan ship was incorporated into our river defense force after the Hong Kong Uprising, renamed the Guishan ship, and participated in the battle of Junk Tail Island. Under the fierce blow of the enemy, the captain of the ship died, and more than half of the crew of the boat, but Guo Qinglong, deputy commander of the 113th Division of the Army, resolutely commanded the ship to continue to advance, and finally succeeded in seizing the beach. Junk Tail Island became the new station of the 131st Division of the 44th Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
In 1954, the people of Zhuhai County renamed Guishan Island Guishan. Standing on Junkytail Island, looking at the vast sea in the distance, I recall countless lovely warriors who have paid for our happy life today. Looking out at the sea, the turquoise water and the bright lighthouse are like a beautiful picture, which makes people feel emotional. This is the sovereignty of the territorial waters of the motherland that those heroes bought with their blood, and it is a place worthy of our eternal remembrance.
Walking around Guishan Island, the boats coming and going in front of you constitute a pleasant scene. The vastness of the sea and the pale blue of the sky remind people of the poems of Wen Tianxiang in the Song Dynasty. In this sea frontier, we cherish the memory of the martyrs who died bravely in the Battle of Guishan, and the people of Zhuhai City erected a monument for these heroes to commemorate their heroic deeds. Heroes who participated in the Battle of Guishan, you will always live in our hearts!
