On December 14, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Song Jinda met with Melissa Brown, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the U.S. Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, who is visiting Cambodia, and the two sides pledged to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

According to a circular issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, Song Jinda and Brown reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in various fields such as economy and trade, investment, development assistance, and people-to-people exchanges.

Song Jinda introduced the new people-oriented policies and priorities, including healthcare, education, and job creation. Song thanked USAID for its support and assistance in some of these areas.

Brown said the United States will continue to deepen bilateral cooperation and seek opportunities for new partnerships. The US side will adopt a pragmatic attitude towards US-Cambodia relations.

At the meeting, Cambodia and the United States exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, including Cambodia's upcoming appointment as coordinator of ASEAN-US relations. Brown appreciated Cambodia's reputation as ASEAN's rotating chairmanship, as well as its constructive approach to the Ukraine crisis.

The United States will also work to support Cambodia's presidency of the Fifth Review Conference of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction (Ottawa Mine Ban Convention).

At the meeting, the two sides emphasized their willingness to engage in dialogue on a wide range of topics, including those with different views. The two sides stressed the importance of enhancing trust between the two countries and seeing each other as partners.
