Southeast Net Philippines, December 5 (Special Reporter Hong Binbin) In order to encourage students to learn more and speak more Hokkien dialect, Chung Cheng College recently held a Hokkien storytelling competition, which was a complete success.
Filipino Hokkien is mainly the language spoken by the Chinese in the Philippines, more precisely the language of the Chinese community, and is the traditional language of most Filipino Chinese. Although it is influenced by Filipino Spanish, Filipino native language (Tagalog) and Filipino English, it is slightly different from Hokkien in China, but it is still the lingua franca of Hokkien people. Also because of the status of Filipino Hokkien as the "Chinese business language", Cantonese people in general, especially Filipino Chinese in Taishan County, also speak Hokkien fluently.
Based on the importance of Hokkien in the Philippines, in order to encourage the younger generation of Chinese Filipinos to continue to use this dialect, Chung Cheng College organizes a week-long "Hokkien Storytelling Competition" in kindergartens, primary schools and junior high schools. The leaders of the Philippine Chinese Business Association attended the competition every day and emphasized the importance of Hokkien to the participants, teachers and students, and reaffirmed the need to continue to use Hokkien in daily life. Present at the event were Shi Dongfang, Chairman of the Philippine Chinese Business Association, Hong Jianxiong, Vice Chairman and Supervisor of the Cultural and Educational Committee, Ke Weihan, Director of the Cultural and Educational Group, Shi Chunyong, Co-Director of the Cultural and Educational Group, and Wen Yiming, Deputy Director.
The well-known figures of the Chinese community who were invited to serve as judges in different categories are: Huang Zhenling, Huang Sihua, Xu Lili, Xu Licheng, Cai Wenhui, Ke Wenjing, Su Rongchao, Cai Ming, Zhuang Lisang, Chen Jinfang, and She Jiamian. The jury selects the winners based on the following criteria: Pitch 20%, Pronunciation 20%, Speech Speed 20%, Emoji 20%, Content 20%. At the end of each competition, the judges will provide point-to-point comments and guidance, which will benefit the participating students a lot.
