The Dutch company recently announced that it will cooperate with Microsoft to jointly develop an artificial intelligence voice assistant for cars. The yet-to-be-named in-car assistant can interact with voice for functions such as location search, infotainment, and cabin system control.
By communicating with Tomtom's AI-powered voice assistant, such as asking questions and giving instructions, drivers can look up directions, add stops on the way, control the temperature, open windows, or change radio channels. Tomtom revealed that the AI voice assistant will use a variety of Microsoft services and products, including Azure OpenAI, Azure Kubernetes, Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Cognitive Services.
The new AI voice assistant will be available on the existing TomTom Digital Cockpit in-car infotainment platform, as well as be integrated into other in-vehicle systems. TomTom's partnership with Microsoft, which began in 2016, has provided location services for Azure Maps, a company that has been competing with Google Maps in the European market, launched a ChatGPT-specific plugin in July that allows developers to add AI-based navigation features to the app, allowing users to talk to large language models for location search, navigation and other traffic information.
