On November 29, Norway Northern Lights officially announced that it had signed a charter agreement with the German Baser Group for 1+1 7,500 cubic meters of liquefied carbon dioxide carriers, increasing the number of Northern Lights CCS project operating fleets to 4. At the same time, DSIC Offshore and the German Best Group also officially signed a contract for the construction of 1+1 7,500 cubic meters liquefied carbon dioxide carriers. After the delivery of the project, BS Group will provide CO2 transportation services for the Northern Lights CCS project.
Ms. He Dongqing, the authorized representative of BSA Group, and Mr. Sun Yingzhi, the chairman of DSIC Offshore signed the construction contract on behalf of both parties, and the signing ceremony of the project was witnessed by Northern Lights Company, BSE Group, Shell London, TotalEnergies, DNV Classification Society, China Merchants Bank Dalian Branch, Dalian Shipbuilding Design and Research Institute and GP Manager of DSIC Offshore Financial Institutions.
The project will still use the same design scheme of the three 7,500 cubic meter carbon dioxide carriers in the previous sequence of the Northern Lights Company, which is independently developed by Dalian Shipbuilding Design and Research Institute, with a length of 130 meters and a width of 212 meters, structural draft 8 meters, flying the Norwegian flag of convenience, classified DNV classification society, scheduled for delivery in mid-2026. The ship type scheme adopts LNG dual-fuel main engine, and applies a variety of innovative technologies such as rotor sail, bubble drag reduction, main engine exhaust gas monitoring system and shaft generator, which reduces the emission level by about 34% compared with traditional ships, meets the most advanced energy efficiency design indication requirements (EEDI Phase III), and effectively realizes the design and construction concept of green, environmental protection, safety, efficiency and comfort, and the design and construction level is at the forefront of the international shipbuilding field.
