The Three Sages of the East, also known as the "Three Statues of the Medicine Master", refer to the Medicine Buddha, the Bodhisattva of the Sunlight and the Bodhisattva of the Moonlight, respectively. The Three Sages of the West, also known as the "Three Amitabha Statues", refer to Amitabha Buddha, Guanyin Bodhisattva and the Great Trend Bodhisattva. There are many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in Buddhism, such as Shakyamuni Buddha, Maitreya Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, Guanyin Bodhisattva, Manjushri Bodhisattva, Puxian Bodhisattva, Jizo Kusa and so on. So, what do the Three Sages of the East and the Three Sages of the West represent? Let's take a look at it.
The Three Saints of the EastIn the middle of the three saints of the East is the Medicine Master Liuli Guang Rulai, that is, the "Medicine Buddha", whose left side is the Bodhisattva of the sun, referred to as the "Bodhisattva of the Daylight", and the right side of the service is the Moonlight of the Bitter Sa, referred to as the "Moonlight Bodhisattva". In Tibetan Buddhism, Medicine Buddha has a blue body. The Bodhisattva of the Sun has a golden body, that is, the color of the sun, and the Bodhisattva of the Moonlight has a white body, which is the color of the moonlight.
The other is a single group of statues, that is, one main deity and two waki-serving bodhisattvas, that is, the three deities of the medicine master. The relationship between the Bodhisattva of the Sun and the Bodhisattva of the Moon and the Medicine Buddha is very deep. According to Buddhist scriptures, Medicine Buddha and the two Bodhisattvas were father and son in a long life. Long ago, when he was alive, he saw a Buddhist priest and his two sons who made good wishes. Dianguang Rulai praised the Vatican very much, so he changed his name to "King of Medicine", the eldest son was renamed "Rizhao", and the second son was renamed "Yuezhao". The Brahma later became a Buddha, that is, Medicine Buddha Nyorai, and his two sons were the two attendants of Medicine Buddha, namely the Bodhisattva of the sun and the Bodhisattva of the moon.
The Three Sages of the WestIn the middle of the three sages in the West is Amitabha Buddha, whose left attendant is Guanyin Kusa, and the right attendant is the Great Trend to the Bodhisattva. Amitabha Buddha represents immeasurable light and immeasurable longevity, that is, immeasurable light, immeasurable wisdom, and immeasurable merit. Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva's great compassion and great trend to the Bodhisattva represent "happy giving", and the two together are "compassion and joyful giving", representing the "four immeasurable minds" in Buddhism, the four kinds of altruism and selflessness.
Avalokiteshvara is not only an attendant of Amitabha Buddha, but also a disciple of Amitabha Buddha. Guanyin Bodhisattva thanked Amitabha Buddha for his kindness, worshiped Amitabha Buddha as his teacher, and always put the teacher's Buddha statue on top of his head, so as to always thank the teacher for his kindness and remind himself that he will never retreat from bodhichitta. Amitabha Buddha also has a close relationship with the Great Trend Bodhisattva. According to the records of the "Sadness Sutra", in the past, when Amitabha Buddha was still the king of the wheel, the Bodhisattva of the Great Trend was the second prince, and his name was "Nemo".
In the worldview of Buddhism in the end, there are three parallel worlds horizontally, ** the lord of the world of sampa is Shakyamuni Buddha, the lord of the Oriental pure glass world is the Medicine Buddha, and the attendants are the Bodhisattva of the Sun and the Bodhisattva of the Moonlight, collectively known as the Three Sages of the East; The Lord of the Western Elysium is revered as Amitabha Buddha, and the attendants are Guanyin Bodhisattva and Dashi Zhi Bodhisattva, collectively known as the Three Sages of the West.
