As we all know, changing the brake fluid or modifying the brake needs to be emptied, but how exactly does the emptying need to be done? How to observe whether the repair shop empties professionally?Let's take a look at it together.
For most cars, it is necessary to start emptying from the farthest caliper of the brake master cylinder, and check the liquid level in the brake fluid reservoir before emptying, keep the brake fluid to the maximum fluid level, and avoid the brake pump, oil circuit, and caliper from entering the air due to the lack of brake oil.
Procedure
Remove the dust cover on the caliper drain nozzle, prepare a transparent hose, connect the drain nozzle while connecting the plastic container, one person continuously press the brake pedal in the car, and the other person loosens the hollow nozzle screw on the caliper outside the car, at this time, the air will be discharged with the oil, observe that there are basically no bubbles, then tighten the emptying nozzle screw.
According to this process, each caliper is emptied one by one, so that each caliper is filled with brake fluid, and the four-wheel emptying sequence is generally right rear, left rear, right front, left front.
Secondary emptying
At this time, there may still be a small amount of air left in the caliper, and more detailed emptying operations need to be carried out, one person steps on the brake pedal several times in the car, and then presses the brake pedal hard to the bottom, and the other person loosens the hollowing screw of the caliper outside the car, and can be locked immediately after the brake fluid is flushed out, repeat the above operation until the oil discharged in the transparent hose is observed to contain air bubbles, and then tighten the emptying screw with the specified torque after filling the brake fluid.
Electronically assisted brakes are emptied
Different from the traditional vacuum assisted brake, the electronic assisted braking system needs to use a brake oil pressure replacement machine to empty the brake oil into the braking system through pressurization, and remember not to energize the vehicle or step on the brake pedal during the emptying period, otherwise it will cause the vehicle to have a fault code. Secondly, if you want to pursue a more extreme brake feel, the traditional vacuum assisted braking system can also be emptied with a brake oil pressure changer.
What is the effect on braking if it is not emptied
If it is not emptied, there will be air in the brake system that will cause the brake pedal to become softer, the braking force will be weakened, and the braking distance will be extended.
Secondly, the brake fluid is easy to absorb water, and the oil pot is not completely sealed, which may inhale moisture in the air, when the brake fluid contains 3% water, it must be replaced with a new brake oil. The quality of brake fluid is determined according to the DOT international grading standard, and the quality from low to high is DOT3, DOT4, DOT5, and the best is DOT51 brake fluid.
