In November 1950, the first battle to resist US aggression and aid Korea ended, and everyone was given time to recuperate, however, enemy planes quietly arrived.
Everyone was worried that the enemy would carry out air strikes at any time, and said that they would hold a meeting to make prevention and control arrangements.
Mr. Peng disagreed, first, he was unwilling to live in an air-raid shelter, and second, he thought that there was no need to be afraid of enemy air raids, and many cadres could not persuade him.
But there was one person who persuaded Mr. Peng, and this person was General Hong Xuezhi, who had a nickname called "Fu General".
Around him, many things can always turn danger into a disaster.
On the second day of reconnaissance by enemy planes, early in the morning, General Hong discovered that enemy planes were coming.
Mr. Peng was still reluctant to enter the air-raid shelter, and he only used one trick to "invite" Mr. Peng into the air-raid shelter.
Afterwards, Mr. Peng also said: "I have to thank you Lao Hong, if it weren't for you, I would have to report to Marx." ”
So how did he persuade Mr. Peng?
Bombing by airplanes
The reason why Mr. Peng said not to be afraid of planes is mainly because of the issue of air supremacy.
At that time, not long after China ended the War of Liberation, it turned around and threw itself into the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and the army building had not yet kept up, especially in the air force, and even the planes were borrowed from the Soviet Union.
In November 1950, after the end of the first campaign, he held a meeting with Shiji's comrades to prepare a plan for the second campaign.
After dinner, the comrades walked in the courtyard and looked up to see American planes flying over the headquarters.
Some people had sharp eyes, and they immediately saw that the plane flying over was a US "F-80" fighter-bomber.
One of them turned around and circled over headquarters for more than an hour before leaving.
Apparently, enemy aircraft discovered the headquarters and were circling on it for reconnaissance.
Soon, this attracted the attention of the two deputy commanders, Deng Hua and Hong Xuezhi, who immediately reported to Mr. Peng to apply for and deploy air defense.
Unexpectedly, when the old man heard it, he didn't care much and said: ".Have the enemy's air raids been interrupted these days?Air supremacy is in the hands of the enemy, and if he wants to carry out bombing, you can't stop it. If you like it, you can open it, and whoever is afraid will open it!
Although Mr. Peng did not agree, the meeting was held. Not only that, Hong Xuezhi also pulled Mr. Peng to listen.
At the meeting, General Hong made detailed arrangements for air defense, and also decided to have dinner at 3 a.m. the next day and evacuate at 4 a.m.
After the meeting, the guards dug a small hole for Mr. Peng overnight in the ravine behind the mountain where he could squat.
Deputy Commander Deng Hua also specially reminded Mr. Peng that "* specially sent a telegram asking for the security of the chairman's headquarters and you.
"Otherwise, the commander-in-chief let the bomb explode, then this game of chess will not be played!."”
Hearing this, Mr. Peng didn't speak, only nodded, and his attitude eased a little, and he was no longer as resistant as before.
As General Hong and others expected, the next morning, General Hong judged through telegrams and the scene that the enemy plane was very likely to be in a gap.
As for Mr. Peng, he heard from the cadres that he couldn't get up from the bed, so General Hong took a few people in to call him.
Seeing him coming, Mr. Peng was quite impatient and said: "You Hong Mazi, why are you so afraid of death!."”
General Hong replied, "I am afraid of death, but I am even more afraid."Boss, you're dead!”
After saying this, he still failed to persuade Mr. Peng, and when he saw this, General Hong gave Ding Gan, the head of the Operations Division, a look.
Let a few soldiers drag Mr. Peng off the bed, and the guards and secretaries immediately took away all the bedding and pillows at the request, and hastily entered the air-raid shelter.
As soon as Mr. Peng entered, 12 US planes arrived outside, and 12 "F-80" fighter-bombers roared by, dropping a large number of bombs and napalm.
Mr. Peng's office and combat duty room were the first to suffer, and the bomb fell, and there was a sea of fire.
Everyone in the bomb shelter exclaimed, it was too dangerous.
And Mr. Peng was also apprehensive about the scene just now, and he said humorously: "I have to thank Lao Hong, if it weren't for your pockmark, I would have gone to see Marx." ”
As for Mr. Peng's reluctance to live in the cave, it was in 1951.
On April 9, 1951, the U.S. military continued to send planes to reconnoiter and carry out air raids, and they were bent on attacking Shiji.
Therefore, the Zhi Division moved from the original Shangganling to the empty temple cave more than 100 kilometers away in the northwest.
There are natural caves there, but the fly in the ointment is that the mines in the Kongsi Cave are often dripping and very damp, so Mr. Peng is reluctant to live in the cave.
He insisted on living in a miner's shed on the hillside, and for safety, a small bomb shelter was dug for him in front of the house.
As long as he finds an air raid, he can hide in a bomb shelter as soon as he goes out.
Deng Hua, Hong Xuezhi and other four people live in a small house under the hillside.
It has only been a few days since they arrived at Kongsi Cave, and everyone has not slept peacefully.
At 5 o'clock in the morning on the fourth day of his stay, just after dawn, General Hong heard the sound of an air raid sentry gun.
When the air raid came, he hurriedly got up, ready to wake people up.
At that time, General Deng Hua was still asleep, and he couldn't wake up, so he had to overturn the marching bed and pull people out.
As soon as they reached the small ravine next to the house, the house was swept by machine guns**.
Immediately afterwards, they saw that Mr. Peng's house was hit and instantly burned.
The two generals were extremely worried, and hurriedly asked the guards to take a look, and the subordinates came back to say that Mr. Peng had entered the cave safely.
It turned out that he slept late the night before, and when it was just dawn, he was still resting.
When the guards heard the air raid coming, they hurriedly got up, and not long after he put on his coat and left the house, the two saw the enemy plane shouting and shooting at their house.
As soon as I entered the house, the doors and windows were broken, the marching bed was shot 4 holes, the quilt was still burning, and the basin and the ** machine were also shot.
In particular, the sandbags piled up in front of their air-raid shelter were hit with more than 70 bullet holes.
As for the bed that General Deng Hua slept on, it was also made out of a big hole.
For the rest of his life after the catastrophe, General Deng also joked: "If it weren't for Brother Hong today, I would probably have gone to the west in my dream." ”
In the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, there were many experiences like this that brushed shoulders with death.
Chance car accident
The reason why General Hong Xuezhi is known as the "Lucky General" is precisely because he has been in danger many times, but he can always turn danger into a disaster.
For example, when Shiji moved to the empty temple cave, he encountered a thrilling and abnormal incident.
In 1951, when the Shiji was transferred from Gimhwa to Kongsa Cave, in order to prevent sudden accidents, important leading comrades died at the same time.
When Zhisi was transferred, he was divided into three batches, Peng Lao was always the first to go, and Hong Xuezhi was the second batch.
The day after Mr. Peng left, at night, he got into a jeep and set off.
The reason why it was chosen at night was that everyone thought that if the line of sight was not good at night, the US enemy planes would not harass so frequently.
But unexpectedly, as soon as he walked out, several enemy planes flew in with a buzz.
It turned out that the enemy plane first dropped a few flares, then dived down and dropped a few bombs.
In order to avoid the attack of enemy planes, the general's car turned left and right on the road, and suddenly turned violently, and the car slid into a ditch.
Fortunately, the car did not overturn, was not damaged, and no one was injured.
After the enemy plane flew away, he and two guards got out of the car and pushed the cart.
But the jeep was a big guy, and it was stuck in a ditch, and the three of them couldn't push it at all.
Fortunately, a large truck passed by on the way to push the cart, and the owner saw that General Hong's car had fallen into the ditch, so he hung a rope and slowly drove up it.
No one expected that as soon as they pulled the car up, a jeep came behind them.
For fear of being discovered by enemy aircraft, the car did not turn on its lights, and the car hit the general's guard, and the injuries were not light.
There were few people in the car, so they handed over the guards to the jeep behind them and told them to rush to the hospital.
After solving this series of troubles, the general and the rest of the men continued on their way, and after walking for about an hour, they began to go up the mountain.
At the same time, enemy planes attacked again, and unfortunately, a large truck drove down from the opposite side.
The car flipped on its headlights, revealing exactly the target.
When the enemy planes saw the bright light, they strafed and dropped bombs at them, and the truck driver ** saw this kind of battle, and in a panic, he turned off the lights and ran down.
There were many curves on the mountain road, and the driver ran to General Hong only to find that there was a car in front of him, and it was too late to brake.
The general hurriedly shouted out of the window: "There is a car in front of you!".”
The driver slammed the steering wheel, but the downhill speed was so fast that he couldn't press the brakes at all, and finally the two cars collided.
The general's car slammed down, and in order to slow down the impact, the general held the handrail in front of him with both hands, but his leg hit the car.
The night before, I saw a large patch of purple, and there was no pain when I tried it at that time, but after the day, my leg hurt so much that I couldn't do it, and it was swollen high.
Back at the crash site, after the two cars collided, there was actually no problem with the big truck, but the jeep suffered heavy losses.
For example, the front bumper was bent and the engine case was flattened.
Both the general and the guards thought that the car would definitely not move, but they did not expect that the truck driver would repair it, and he would miraculously be able to continue moving forward after getting into the car.
In this way, in the second half of the night, they hurried to the empty temple cave.
Speaking of this, after Mr. Peng found out, he was very relieved, saying that the headlights should still be turned on, walk slowly, and don't care whether he throws bombs on the plane or not.
In addition to the car accident, during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, General Hong Xuezhi also escaped natural disasters.
So, what happened at that time?
Fortune is great
On May 29, 1951, the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea was carried out during the 5th Campaign.
During the battle, the 60th Division of the 180th Army lost contact with the military headquarters, the 3rd Corps, and the Zhi Division.
At that time, Mr. Peng was the only one in the Kongsidong Command Headquarters, Deputy Commander Han Xianchu was transferred back to China, and Deputy Commander Deng Hua returned to Shenyang because of a face injury.
As for General Hong Xuezhi, he had just arrived in Nantingli the night before, and he was also the logistics commander of the newly established Volunteer Army.
Mr. Peng was anxious, and at 7 o'clock in the evening of the same day, he called General Hong in Nanting and asked him to hurry back to Zhisi to discuss countermeasures.
When he received the **, it was windy and pouring rain outside, and it stands to reason that there might be an accident on the way to pass in such a hurry.
But the situation was urgent, and it was a big deal that a division had no news, so he couldn't care about it so much, so he immediately took the guards and got into the car and returned to Shiji.
Unfortunately, the rain became heavier and heavier, as if a hole had been punctured in the sky.
Even if there are windshield wipers hanging on the car, you can't see clearly after walking a few steps.
To make matters worse, the roadside was full of water, and the ditches were also fed by the rain and began to swell.
On the way, you need to cross a river, and the current rises so much that it directly overflows the start, and the car is suddenly turned off.
Not only that, but the water coming down from above washed the car around, and if the water was any bigger, I am afraid that the car would also be washed away.
In order to hurry over, the general and the guards got out of the car and pushed forward, and after slowly moving across the river, the car started again and rushed out with a buzz.
As they crossed the riverbank, the general broke out in a cold sweat as he looked at the rocks behind him that had been washed down by the flood.
It was more than 100 miles from Nanting-ri to Kongsidong, and it rained heavily in the middle of the night, and coupled with the fear of a sneak attack by the enemy, it was already 2 o'clock in the morning when they arrived at Shiji.
In addition to this, General Hong also experienced gas poisoning once.
On October 21, 1951, the general went to Pyongyang to meet with Kim Il Sung.
That night, he stayed at the Chinese embassy in North Korea outside Pyongyang. The embassy was located in a ravine with a bomb shelter, but it was so humid that he did not live there, but in a room outside.
There was a new fire pit in the house, but it was still dry, so it was being baked over a coal fire.
In addition, the door of the room has not yet been installed, but in view of the anti-aircraft leakage of light, the doors and windows are tightly covered with black cloth curtains.
The general slept alone in one room, and the four guards and the driver all lived in another room.
As a result, in the middle of the night, the general suddenly woke up, feeling dizzy and a little out of breath.
He felt that something was not quite right, so he struggled to get up, got out of bed and tried to get out, and after taking two steps, he fell.
It just so happened that he was stuck on the threshold, his head was groggy, and he didn't know anything.
At five or six o'clock in the morning, the general woke up again, and this time he opened his eyes and found himself sleeping on the ground.
He was shocked in his heart, how did he lie on the ground and sleep?
Sitting up and recalling the details, he remembered that when he seemed to have fallen, he had smashed a hole in the cotton curtain of the doorway.
After dawn, Ambassador Ni Zhiliang had breakfast with him.
General Hong said to him: "I am dizzy, I feel a little nauseous, and I don't really want to eat. ”
Ambassador Ni hurriedly asked him what was wrong, and the general told him what happened last night.
When Ambassador Ni heard this, he patted his thigh and said, "It's broken, it must be the middle gas." The kang in the new house has not dried yet, it must have been smoked by gas, so hurry up and take some medicine. ”
At that time, General Hong, who had already walked out of the house, had already relieved himself, so he did not take medicine.
However, this night was very thrilling, if the general had been sleeping on the kang and failed to knock the door hole out, the consequences would be unimaginable.
After the meeting, Ambassador Ni repeatedly asked the general to stay, "You can stay for two more days, rest and rest before leaving!"”
However, the general has a lot of affairs, and there is still a lot of work to be done in the headquarters, so he is not very relieved to let others come.
Besides, he was apprehensive about Ambassador Ni's house, so he said, "Forget it, I don't dare to rest here with you anymore." With that, both of them laughed.
In the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, General Hong Xuezhi served as the deputy commander of the Volunteer Army, and later served as the logistics commander, becoming a solid rear of the troops.
On the battlefield, he was saved from danger many times, which can be described as a "lucky general", and his contribution to the victory of the war is even more dazzling, and his achievements will forever be engraved on the stone tablet of history.
