An outbreak of H5N6 avian influenza was found at Han Farm, culling more than 500,000 birds

According to Reuters on December 19, the World Organisation for Animal Health said on the 19th that South Korea reported eight outbreaks of H5N6 avian influenza on farms, resulting in the culling of more than 500,000 poultry.

Citing information from South Korean authorities, the group issued a report on its ** that an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza was detected in villages in western South Korea from December 5 to 11.

According to the Paris-based World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the virus killed 47 poultry and culled a total of 513,810 others.

Earlier this month, South Korea reported an outbreak of the H5N1 strain, which has been circulating globally, including in Japan and Cambodia in Asia. However, South Korea has not reported any H5N6 outbreaks.

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) database, the H5N6 strain has only been detected in Asia in the past four years, with the latest outbreak occurring on a chicken farm in the Philippines.

The Hong Kong Center for Health Protection released a report on the 19th that from 2014 to December 16 this year, a total of 88 cases of human infection with avian influenza A (H5N6) were reported worldwide.
