As the first exam after the full implementation of the art examination reform, the 2024 art examination has attracted much attention. According to Xinhua News Agency, recently, more than 20 provinces have opened the unified examination, and some provinces have ended some subject examinations, and the new changes and new characteristics of the examination have aroused heated discussions.
According to the guidance on the enrollment of art majors issued by the Ministry of Education in 2021, majors that use provincial unified examination results as professional examination scores, from 2024, the proportion of cultural course scores in the college entrance examination shall not be less than 50% in principle. This means that the road of "failing to achieve results in cultural courses and relying on the art examination to go to university" will not work, and those who want to rely on the "curve college entrance examination" of the art examination will have to choose another path, and the training method of art candidates will also change.
In order to select art professionals, China has been conducting art examinations since 1952. After the expansion of the college entrance examination in 1999, the enrollment and training scale of art majors continued to expand, which had a positive significance for the prosperity of the literary and artistic undertakings. However, under the original art examination model, some candidates have limited professional development due to insufficient comprehensive cultural literacy after admission, especially the scores of some star cultural courses are significantly lower than those of ordinary candidates, which have also been questioned by the public.
With the popularity of art examinations, various types of training services have also emerged. Many students who do not perform well in cultural courses can become "art candidates" after three months of assault in the training class. Art candidates have become "easy candidates", causing some candidates and their parents to have the illusion that everyone can walk on the "star road", which promotes the impetuous social atmosphere.
Behind the craze for art examinations, there is a desire for quick success and quick profit, which leads to the aggravation of the phenomenon of cultural literacy neglected by candidates, which is seriously contrary to the law of cultivating artistic talents, and some art students even have difficulty completing their basic studies after being admitted to university. Because of this, attaching importance to cultural courses has become the general requirement of the art examination reform in recent years and an important part of the new round of reform.
In 2021, the Ministry of Education issued a document proposing that by 2024, the basic establishment of a unified college entrance examination as the basis, provincial professional examination as the main body, based on the college entrance examination cultural results, professional examination results, reference to the comprehensive quality evaluation of students, classification examination, comprehensive evaluation, multiple admission of the college art professional examination enrollment system, to the utilitarian concept of "cultural achievements are not good to the art test" clearly said "no".
According to reports, after the difficulty of the cultural class exam has increased, the number of applicants for the provincial unified examination in some categories in some regions in 2024 has also decreased. According to the data of the Anhui Provincial Education Admissions Examination Institute, in 2024, the candidates for art and design, **, and broadcasting and hosting will be 240,000 people, 0490,000 and 0180,000, compared to 3190,000 people, 070,000 and 030,000 people. According to statistics from art examination training institutions, the scale of art candidates in Sichuan Province in 2024 will be nearly 60,000, a decrease of about 10% from 2023.
Correspondingly, the scale and scope of school examinations continue to shrink. According to statistics, in 2024, a total of 38 colleges and universities will carry out school examinations for some art majors, while in 2019, nearly 100 colleges and universities will organize school examinations, and the number of colleges and universities in the earlier period once exceeded 300. These changes have undoubtedly greatly reduced the financial and time costs of students.
Artistic talents need talent, but they also need solid cultural literacy as support, otherwise they will be like water without a source and a tree without roots. Raising the threshold of cultural performance, making the art examination no longer "easy to test", and "dissuading" some candidates who are not really interested in art careers is a correction of utilitarian thinking such as "emphasizing professionalism over culture" and "temporary quick success", and also demonstrates the respect for the law of artistic talent training. And this will inevitably help more talents with artistic talent and cultural literacy, and a true love for art, to stand out.
