At IGN's Game of the Year awards, the exciting time has finally arrived, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been crowned! This game stands out in a highly competitive situation, far beating Resident Evil 4 Remake, Cyberpunk 2077: Shadows of the Past, Alan Wake 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 to become the best of 2023!This isn't just because the game provides more of the content players need, but because it asks every player the question: what miracles can we do with the right tools? It's no longer a simple puzzle or finding a switch, it's an infinitely open world of creation, and Nintendo shows us the infinite possibilities of creativity with Tears of the Kingdom.
Compared to Baldur's Gate 3, Tears of the Kingdom is not a simple replica. Early on in the game, the key was the "Ultimate Hand", which not only changed the way puzzles were solved, but also hid all the answers to the challenge in the environment around the player. This innovation allows players to stop blindly looking for color combinations or switches, but instead inspire them to find answers in the forests, caves, skies, and abysses around the corners.
Tears of the Kingdom is not just a simple remake of Breath of the Wild, but rather sees its predecessor as a lavish exploration. Shigeru Miyamoto, the founder of the Zelda series, drew inspiration from his childhood adventures in the forests and caves of Japan, and this dream of exploration is perfectly realized in this game. Thirty-seven years later, players are able to create mechs, flying machines, rocket ships, and all sorts of whimsy, which makes the game even more fascinating.
The game wins not only because of its novelty, but also because of the depth and breadth of creativity it inspires. This open-ended exploration and unleashing of creativity is what makes Tears of the Kingdom the Game of the Year.
