When it comes to AIDS, most people are terrified, even to the point of "talking about HIV", but they always avoid talking about it, and they cannot grasp the knowledge of AIDS.
December 1, 2023 is the 36th World AIDS Day, and this year's theme is "Unite the Fight Against AIDS". The Hongkou District Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Ouyang Anti-drug Point jointly produced an HIV/AIDS prevention science popularization mini** to help everyone understand AIDS-related knowledge and eliminate the fear of "talking about HIV/AIDS".
What is AIDSAIDS, also known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, is a chronic malignant infectious disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV is a serious infectious disease that gradually destroys the immune system of people, causing infected people to gradually lose their ability to resist various diseases, and eventually lead to death. At present, there is no vaccine to prevent AIDS, and it cannot be completely **, once infected, you need to take drugs for life.
How AIDS is transmittedHIV is transmitted through sexual contact, blood, and mother-to-child. Sexual contact is the most important way of transmission of HIV, and HIV can be transmitted between men and women or between men and women through sexual activity.
HIV is less resistant to the outside world after leaving the body, and daily contact such as shaking hands, talking, and eating together does not transmit HIV.
Proper use of condoms throughout sexual intercourse is the most effective measure to prevent sexual transmission. Avoiding intravenous drug use in shared syringes is an effective way to prevent blood-borne transmission of HIV.
At the same time, we must also improve the identification and vigilance of new "dress-up" drugs packaged as "cola, milk tea, jelly beans", avoid sexual promiscuity that may result from drug use, stay away from drugs, and maintain physical and mental health.
When a woman living with HIV gives birth to a child, she transmits HIV to her fetus or baby during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. However, for HIV-infected patients who wish to have children, they can prepare for pregnancy after receiving mother-to-child blockade under the guidance of a professional doctor.
Why HIV Testing CounselingAfter high-risk behaviors occur, such as unprotected sex, sharing needles and drug use, etc., HIV testing and counseling should be actively carried out, which is conducive to early detection, early diagnosis, and early **.
The appropriate time to test for HIV is 4 weeks after the onset of high-risk behaviors, and if the test is negative, a repeat test should be done 12 weeks after the onset of high-risk behaviors to rule out infection.
By taking the initiative to get tested for HIV as early as possible, you can find out if you are infected with HIV in time. If the test result is negative, the concern can be relieved. If the test result is positive, antiretroviral therapy should be started immediately** and sexual partners should be advised to get tested for HIV as soon as possible to avoid further transmission of HIV.
If an individual regularly engages in behaviors that are at high risk of HIV infection, they should be tested for HIV regularly, preferably at least twice a year. Regular HIV testing is an important measure for early detection of infected people and patients.
What is post-exposure prophylaxis for HIVAIDS post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) refers to the method of reducing the risk of HIV infection by taking specific antiviral drugs as soon as possible after people who have not yet been infected with HIV, such as unprotected sex, sharing needles and drugs, or being a victim.
PEP is best used within 24 hours and no later than 72 hours, and the sooner the drug is taken, the better the blocking effect. It is important to note that PEP must be used under the guidance of a medical professional. It is necessary to follow the doctor's instructions to insist on taking it for 28 consecutive days, and you cannot reduce or stop the drug at will during this period.
