Du Ruhui was born in a family of eunuchs, his grandfather Du Guoguan was the secretary of the Ministry of Industry in the Sui Dynasty, and his father Du Zhan also served as a Lang official in the Sui Dynasty.
Growing up in such a family environment, Du Ruhui received a good education from an early age.
However, in the last years of the Sui Dynasty, wars were frequent, and Du Ruhui was forced to leave his hometown and live in exile. Despite his difficult situation, he remained motivated and studious.
In the process of the establishment of the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin, the king of Qin, fought in the south and the north, and his prestige was far and wide.
After hearing about the prestige of the King of Qin, Du Ruhui decided to defect to him. In the palace of King Qin, Du Ruhui met another talented strategist - Fang Xuanling.
The two hit it off at first sight and became friends. Under the account of King Qin, Du Ruhui and Fang Xuanling jointly planned many important strategic decisions and made great achievements for the establishment of the Tang Dynasty.
In 617 AD, Li Yuan and his son raised troops in Taiyuan, and Li Shimin was appointed to join the army in Qin, and he was later promoted to the governor of Shaanzhou.
In 618 AD, Li Yuan established the Tang Dynasty regime, and in July of the same year, Li Shimin was appointed as the secretary of the military department and participated in the war to destroy Xue Ju, Liu Wuzhou and other separatist forces.

In 619 AD, Liu Wuzhou and Song Jingang attacked Taiyuan, and Du Ruhui followed Li Shimin to the crusade and defeated Liu Wuzhou.
In 620 AD, Li Shimin led an army to attack Wang Shichong in Luoyang, and Wang Shichong united with Dou Jiande.
In the process of Li Shimin's struggle for the throne and the governance of the Tang Dynasty, Du Ruhui was his important arm and an extremely important senior strategist in his political career. After Li Shimin ascended the throne, Bai Du Ruhui was still in the military department and entered the title of Cai Guogong.
In the second year of Zhenguan (628), the official inspected the school and served in the school, and the regent department was still in charge, and he was still in charge of the East Palace.
After the establishment of the Tang Dynasty, Du Ruhui was appointed as the left concubine of the crown prince.
He assisted the crown prince Li Zhi and dealt with the major affairs of the court. However, soon after, the crown prince was deposed, and Du Ruhui was also implicated. In the Zhenguan rule of Tang Taizong, Du Ruhui and Fang Xuanling were called "Fang Mou Du Xuan".

However, in his later years, he resigned due to illness and went into hiding. During his serious illness, Tang Taizong sent people to visit him many times and gave him medicine and food. Eventually, he died peacefully at home at the age of fifty-three.
