As Christmas approaches in February, some UK universities are also entering the exam season, including Imperial College London (IC).
Some colleges are in the exam week from December 11 to December 15. And there will be exams when I come back from the holiday in January next year, from January 8th to January 19th.
Referring to the latest undergraduate score data for the 2022-23 academic year released on the official website of IC, we helped you find the college with the most difficult score in IC!
The proportion of high scores in the four major colleges of IC
The total number of undergraduate students at Imperial College London in the 2022-23 academic year is 3,065, with 93 students achieving a first-class degree and a 2:1 degree6%, of which 49 are first-class students8%。
Imperial College London is one of the easiest schools in the UK to get high grades.
IC has four graduate schools: the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and the Faculty of Business.
Among them, the undergraduate scoring method of medical schools and business schools is relatively special, so it will not be discussed for the time being. Here's what happens to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Natural Sciences
Faculty of Engineering
It is the college that accommodates the most undergraduate students in IC.
In that year, a total of 1,309 students received undergraduate degrees, 740 received first-class degrees, and 494 received 2:1 degrees, with high-scoring students (first-class + 2:1 degrees) accounting for 943%。
Faculty of Natural Sciences
A total of 875 students received undergraduate degrees, 424 received first-class degrees, 352 received 2:1 degrees, and high-scoring students (first-class + 2:1 degrees) accounted for 887%。
The 4 departments that are the most difficult to get a high score in IC
The following 4 departments have a high score (first class degree + 2:1 degree) in the primary school, and the proportion of students with high scores is less than 90%, and it is the most difficult to get good grades.
Physics
Proportion of first-class degrees: 395%
High score (first class + 2:1 degree) ratio: 789%
The Department of Physics is part of the IC Academy of Natural Sciences, founded in 1906 and is one of the largest physics departments in the UK.
This is the most difficult department for IC undergraduates to get a first-class degree, and it is also the most difficult department to get a high score of 2:1 or above. And in 23 years, compared with last year, the proportion of first-class degrees has dropped by about 10%!
Undergraduate Majors (Presentation Part):
bsc geophysics
bsc physics
bsc physics with theoretical physics
Earth Science and Engineering
First class degree ratio: 439%
High score (first class + 2:1 degree) ratio: 833%
The ESE department was established in 1851 as part of the Royal School of Mines and became part of IC in 1907. So there's a very long history.
In fact, 10% more students in this department have received first-class degrees than last year! However, the proportion of high scores (first class + 2:1 degree) has decreased, indicating that the number of students who have obtained the highest score in the first class degree and the lower score of the degree below 2:2 have increased.
Undergraduate Majors (Presentation Part):
bsc earth and planetary science
bsc geology
bsc geophysics
Mathematics
Proportion of first-class degrees: 614%
High score (first class + 2:1 degree) ratio: 855%
The Department of Mathematics is also affiliated with the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The curriculum is divided into four major directions: Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics & Mathematical Physics, Statistics, and Mathematical Finance.
According to REF 2021, 100% of the research results of the IC "Mathematics" discipline were rated as "world-leading" and "internationally excellent"!
In fact, it is relatively easy to get the highest score in the first class degree, and the proportion of first-class students in 23 years exceeded 61%!However, the percentage of high scores is relatively low, as only 24 per cent of students earn a 2:1 degree, and 15 per cent earn a degree below 2:2.
Undergraduate Majors (Presentation Part):
Department: BSc Mathematics
bsc mathematics (pure mathematics)
bsc mathematics with statistics
Joint teaching with the Department of Computer Science:
beng mathematics and computer science
Materials
First class degree: 451%
High score (first class + 2:1 degree) ratio: 853%
The Department of Materials is one of the most difficult departments to get a high score and the most difficult to get a first-class degree this year.
Compared with last year, the pressure score is more serious, and the proportion of high scores has dropped from 94% to 85%.
Undergraduate Majors (Presentation Part):
beng materials science and engineering
meng materials with nuclear engineering
meng biomaterials and tissue engineering
