The war between Israel and Palestine continues, and Israel is ready to take over the entire Gaza Strip as it stands.
Such a crazy move has aroused the opposition of most countries around the world, but Israel is determined to go its own way and does not hesitate to make the enemy of the whole world. On December 10, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed dissatisfaction with the position of the Russian representative on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict at the United Nations and other platforms in a conversation with Putin.
Netanyahu's remarks were referring to a vote in the UN Security Council on December 8. The draft resolution for this vote, sponsored by the United Arab Emirates and other countries, calls for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian armed groups.
Of the 15 members of the Council, 13 voted in favour and the United Kingdom abstained, but the draft resolution was not adopted because of a veto by the United States.
It is worth mentioning that there is an important background to this vote: on 6 December, UN Secretary-General António Guterres invoked Article 99 of the UN Charter to send a letter to the rotating presidency of the Security Council, calling on the Council to take action to avert a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
With Guterres' appeal, the vote was supported by the majority of the members of the Security Council, and even Japan, which has always followed the United States, voted in favor, but because of the United States' insistence on going its own way, the United Nations efforts on the issue of a humanitarian ceasefire have basically failed, and UN Secretary-General Guterres said that the prestige of the Security Council has been damaged because of this incident.
It should be noted that the Russian side has behaved relatively rationally in this Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and while calling for a ceasefire between the two sides, Russia is also condemning Hamas's terrorist attacks.
It stands to reason that Israel should not verbally criticize Russia at this time, but now Israel no longer has such rational thinking, and in his opinion, Russia is hurting Israel by voting in favor of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Israel's arrogance is first and foremost related to its own relative strength.
Israel's military power clearly has a crushing advantage over Hamas. In Israel's view, he himself is capable of completely occupying the Gaza Strip and completely eliminating all Hamas militants.
Now that Israel has occupied northern Gaza and the southern part is within reach, there is no need for Israel to stop, and this is the main reason why it refuses to cease fire despite the opposition of the international community. Regardless of what the international community thinks, Israel itself believes that only by physically eliminating Hamas, a "terrorist organization", can it guarantee its own peace.
Secondly, Israel also has strong support from the United States. Recently, it was reported that the United States hopes that Israel will end its military operation in the Gaza Strip within a month.
But on December 10, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in an interview that the timing of the end of the military operation was up to Israel, rejecting previously circulated claims. Earlier, the United States even claimed that the Israeli army had protected civilians as much as possible.
Not only that, but the United States also colluded with Israel to blatantly fabricate lies that Israel had established a security zone in the southern Gaza Strip, but was quickly slapped in the face by the United Nations, Guterres publicly stated that there is no safe place in the Gaza Strip, and even the United Nations facilities on the ground have become no longer safe due to Israeli attacks.
The goal of the United States and Israel is the same, which is to eliminate as many militants as possible. Israel has been entangled with Hamas for decades, and he knows very well that Hamas will not give up the line of armed struggle, and in the absence of any possibility of changing Hamas's thinking, Israel hopes to quickly cut through the mess and use the opportunity of this Hamas attack to completely sweep away the Gaza Strip where Hamas is entrenched, although it may not be able to completely eliminate Hamas, but at least it can hit their strength to a great extent, so that Hamas will not be able to launch another attack on Israel in the next few years.
However, this is naïve. In 2004, the Israeli Air Force launched two targeted killings, killing Yassin, the founder and spiritual leader of Hamas, and Rantis, the de facto leader of Hamas at the time, which seemed to have dealt a huge blow to Hamas, but Hamas won in 2007 in Palestine**;
Israel has been besieging the Gaza Strip for another decade, but Hamas still has the ability to fire more than 3,000 rockets at a time, proving that the prolonged siege has not brought Hamas to its knees.
This is enough to prove that countering violence with violence will not work in the Middle East. More importantly, even if the main force of Hamas is destroyed in Gaza this time, the brutality of the Israeli army in Gaza has sown the seeds of hatred in the hearts of the Palestinian people.
In a few years' time, a large number of people will join Hamas. The fire of hatred cannot be extinguished, and Israel should not forget this.
In fact, Hamas abandoned its goal of "eliminating Israel" a few years ago in favor of a two-state solution, which is in fact a huge concession to Palestine and on the basis of which Israel could try diplomatic negotiations if it really wants peace.
Just as Hitler's ** could not physically exterminate the Jewish nation, Israel's mad actions could not exterminate the Palestinians. Since Israel talks about its own history, why can't it compare its heart with its heart and learn the lessons of Hitler?
