Windows 11 has always provided a decent pre-installed experience, but the poor design of the new taskbar is unbearable. However, with a few tweaks to the settings, the system will look like a throwback to the old days of Windows.

This article will cover five Windows 11 settings that are worth changing right away, as well as an additional perk. It took us less than five minutes to adjust these settings. Not long ago, I just completed an operation for a user who needed to replace their Windows 11 system.

First, let's adjust the position of the Start Menu. Open the Start menu, go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar, and select Taskbar Behaviors. In the Taskbar alignment options that appear, change from Center to Left.

Then, turn off those annoying pop-up notifications. Windows 11 itself triggers some notifications, but the most annoying ones come from third-party apps, especially software that comes pre-installed on your computer. The best way to turn off these interruptions is to manually browse and tick those important tools like Slack, Discord, and antivirus. If you want, you can also turn off all notifications individually.

Here's another little trick. Keep scrolling down to the bottom of the list of apps, and you'll see some extra options related to the "how to set up your device" recommendations provided by Windows 11 itself. If you're familiar with system settings, you can deselect options like "Make suggestions in the settings app" and "Get suggestions and tips." I recommend keeping "Show Windows Welcome Experience....option to stay up to date with new features.

We're not done yet, though. If you don't like seeing Microsoft Promotions pop up in the Settings app, go to Start > Settings > Privacy & Security > General and uncheck "Show content suggestions in the Settings app." Of course, you can also choose to turn off all of these options.

Finally, go to Settings > Personalization > Device Usage. These options tell Microsoft how to use your PC so that Windows 11 can provide customized recommendations for apps, Office 365 trials, and more. If you're not interested, you can close it all.

In addition, there are some other places that may also show Microsoft promotional content, such as beautiful lock screen wallpapers provided by Bing Images. However, tweaking the above settings will solve most of the irritating content.

If you want to customize your Windows 11 system even further, you can also consider installing Stardock's StarDock Start11 or Starisback software. These software provide granular control over the appearance and functionality of the taskbar and start menu. These are beyond the scope of this article, but deserve a special mention.

It is worth mentioning that many users prefer the interface with black text and a white background. In order to protect our eyesight, we will always switch the Windows system to dark mode as soon as possible. Go to Settings > Personalization > Color, find the Choose your mode option and change from Light to Dark.

That's it for the new Windows 11 system to change the five settings and tips immediately. You can further tweak and optimize to your liking.
