New Machine Research Institute
Editor's note: Apple has always been the actual creator and pioneer of smartphones, with many talents, from design to technology, but with the death of Steve Jobs and Cook taking over Apple, many Apple executives have left, including the designers of the iOS system, and now the iPhone and Apple Watch's product design executives will also leave in February next year, counting the few people who have left the chip industry, Apple has actually lost a lot of executives in the core management, does this have any significant impact on Apple's products?
According to related news reports, Apple's executive in charge of iPhone and Apple Watch product design will leave in February next year, while the head of iPhone product design will take over the development work, and the vice president of Mac hardware engineering will be responsible for the design of the Apple Watch. So overall, Apple will have a replacement situation in design, from the design of the appearance to some logical design of the product UI, there may be major changes, which mainly depends on whether Apple's route is conservative or open in the future.
First of all, the design team is very important to Apple, but it is not so important, because Apple's design has tended to be in a state of minor repairs since the first generation of the iPhone. It wasn't until the beginning of the iPhone X generation that it was a huge change, but its design was also widely criticized, until today's full screen of notch. It is still not a relatively good design, it can only be a product of compromise and a defective product that is familiar and accepted by users.
After Cook took over Apple, Apple's overall approach tended to be conservative, which is also because super-large companies may tend to stabilize in the strategic design direction of their products, and try to avoid some risky designs or hardware upgrades. It is precisely for this reason that many products of the iPhone have almost no changes in the appearance design, a design can last for three or four generations or even longer on the iPhone products, and there is no change in the camera module, from these elements, the departure of the relevant design team does not seem to have a huge impact, which is also applicable to the Apple Watch, after all, Apple The appearance of the Watch has long been completely determined, and the last few generations of products have only made some upgrades to the bezel part of the screen, barely increasing some of the screen-to-body ratio.
So from this point of view, Apple has no plans to change the design frequently, so the departure of the head of the design department does not seem to have a particularly big impact. However, the departure of relevant personnel in chip research and development has a greater impact on Apple, especially the performance of A16 to A17 Pro in terms of performance has not achieved the expected effect at all. Among them, A17 Pro adopts the most expensive and exclusive TSMC 3nm process, and it actually reverses in terms of performance, heat and power consumption, which is enough to show that the core personnel who have jumped to Qualcomm still play a pivotal role in the entire Apple chip field.
For Apple, it is currently trying its best to maintain its R&D team in the field of chips and old employees including the core software level, after all, these two fields of software and hardware can indeed play a role in affecting the whole body. Especially considering that the next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is already crushing Apple in terms of hardware performance, it seems that it is more important to prevent the loss of talent.
Of course, we guess that many employees leave may not be quite the same as a lot of Cook's logic, Jobs is a genius product manager, so at this point, we can indeed understand the ideals of these designers or technical and creative bulls, but Cook is a businessman, a big bull in charge of the ** chain, and the two sides have no fit on this point, which may also be the reason for the departure of executives.
