On December 26, the construction of the T3 to Jiangcun West Section of the Guanghe High-speed Rail Baiyun Airport (hereinafter referred to as the "Guanghe High-speed Rail Airport Section") was officially started by Guangzhou Metro Group and led by China Railway.

The airport section of the Guanghe high-speed railway is an important part of the planning of the Guanghe high-speed railway, with a design speed of 160 kilometers per hour (local speed limit) and a total construction period of 60 months. The project is located in Baiyun District, Guangzhou, and the line starts from the red line of the third phase of the east end of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and ends at the Jiangcun West Line, with a total length of 15669 kilometers, of which the length of the line from the red line to the west of Jiangcun West at the west end of Baiyun Airport is 12559 kilometers, the length of the Zhongguanghe high-speed railway line in the reserved project (within the red line of the third phase of the Baiyun Airport plan) is 311 km. There are 1 Baiyun Airport Station and 2 line stations on the whole line.

It is reported that the surrounding environment of the project is complex, the geological conditions are poor, the proportion of bridges and tunnels is large, the construction is difficult and the risk is high, which mainly reflects the characteristics of "three more, three strict, and three difficulties", that is, there are many work points on the upper span or near the existing business lines, many high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage power lines near or under the line, and many demolished housesThe settlement control of important buildings (structures) under the large-diameter shield is strictly controlled, the verticality of the large-diameter ultra-deep pile foundation is strictly controlled, and the rotation of large-tonnage T-structure bridges is strictly controlledIt is difficult to construct under the ultra-high voltage power corridor, to construct large-diameter pile foundations in karst areas, and to excavate long-distance shields in karst areas.

To this end, Guangzhou Metro Group actively organized all participating units to continue to do in-depth and detailed preliminary research and design work, and at the same time increased the coordination of preliminary projects, strengthened geological survey of karst areas, strengthened the investigation and protection measures of existing buildings (structures), and took all-round measures to ensure the safety of project construction. In order to solve the problem of shield tunneling, the project will adopt a super large shield machine tailored for the upper soft and lower hard strata composed of complex geological components such as under-karst development areas, clay, high-strength limestone and argillaceous siltstone, and equipped with an advanced geological prediction system, a soil silo visualization system, a main drive telescopic system and an innovative screw machine and a double-channel slag discharge system with a straight row pipe for tunneling operations.

It is understood that the project from T3 to Jiangcun West Section of Baiyun Airport of Guanghe High-speed Railway fully responds to the requirements of Guangzhou's "14th Five-Year Plan" and helps Guangzhou build a "hub city", which is an important measure to promote the implementation of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport's functional positioning of "leading the construction of a world-class airport cluster in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and supporting the strategy of becoming a civil aviation power".

After the completion of the project, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport will be quickly integrated into the high-speed rail trunk network, so that the airport can reach the central city in 30 minutes, the Greater Bay Area in 1 hour, and the adjacent provincial capitals in 3 hours. It is of great significance to enhance the radiation role of Guangzhou as a national comprehensive gateway city and the core city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as to realize high-speed connectivity between the airport hubs in the Greater Bay Area and jointly build a Guangzhou metropolitan area with global influence.
