Canada is so good for international students?Relaxation of employment restrictions!

Mondo Education Updated on 2024-01-29

Recently, Ontario, Canada, announced a new employment policyThe program prohibits employers from asking job seekers about Canadian work experience, while also relaxing the eligibility requirements for provincial nominations. The plans are expected to take effect next year.

This is undoubtedly gratifying news!It will be easier for international students and technicians to get high salaries + immigrants in the future。Let's take a closer look!

1. Adjustment of employment policies

Since December 1st,Ontario will prohibit more than 30 occupations (including engineers, tradesmen, electricians and plumbers, among others) and professional licensing bodies from making Canadian work experience a strict requirement when issuing licenses.

Previously, workers needed to have at least 1 year of Canadian work experience in a specific field to be licensed.

It is also forbidden for employers to ask for Canadian work experience in their job copy and application**. This initiative aims to further remove barriers to employment for newcomers.

In a statement, Ontario Labour Minister D**id Piccini said: "Too many newcomers to Canada are being directed to second-class careers with lower social status, remuneration and recognition, even though their education or skills are far beyond what is required for the actual job. We need to ensure that these people can find well-paid, meaningful careers to meet the labor shortage. ”

B.C. has also implemented policies similar to those in Ontario, allowing immigrants and foreign workers with foreign credentials for specific occupations to quickly obtain skills certification and start practicing at an early stage in B.C.

2. International students ushered in good news

Ontario's new bill will expand eligibility for the Provincial Nominee Program (OINP).International students from the one-year college graduate certificate program are allowed to apply.

For example, while Ontario** is in high demand, many people who choose a short-term graduate program to pursue a nursing profession currently struggle to obtain a provincial nomination.

The Saskatchewan Provincial Nominee SINP Program for Skilled Workers with Existing Work Permit announced a significant relaxation of application requirements, adding 279 low- and medium-skilled occupations. These include farm workers, truck drivers, retail salespeople, assistants, equipment operators, and more.

3. Saskatchewan Provincial Nominee Quota increased

In March of this year,Saskatchewan and Immigration Canada's IRCC have reached an agreement to increase the immigration quota for the province's Provincial Nominee Program by 42% over the past three years.

to 7,250 in 2023;

to 8,000 in 2024;

This will increase to 8,500 by 2025.

said the Provincial Nominee Program adjustment process will begin in early 2024, but other changes may take longer to ensure that employers and professional regulators have sufficient time to adjust to the new rules.

At present, there is still a great demand for labor in Canada, and the employment environment and opportunities for international students and skilled workers in Canada in the future are relatively optimistic. So now it may be a good choice to study in Canada.

Ontario, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and other places mentioned above are also relatively mainstream study cities, and Canada's top 10 universities such as Toronto, Queen's University, and McMaster University are all here.
