An African-American woman in Lancaster, Los Angeles County, California, USA, called the police on December 4 because her boyfriend was suspected of domestic violence, but the white police officers who came to the door shot her four times in a row.
Niani Finlayson, a 27-year-old woman, called the police at 6 p.m. on the 4th, accusing her boyfriend of refusing to leave her residence and refusing to let her go.
Three police officers heard screams as they approached her residence. According to footage taken by the officer's body-worn camera, a police officer tried to kick the door open but failed. When Finlaisen came to open the door, he was armed with an eight-inch knife. She told the officer: "I was going to stab him with a knife and he dared to push my baby." Without waiting for the officer to respond, she ran into the apartment.
Constable Ty Shelton followed another officer into the house, and Finlaison's daughter explained to the officer as she walked that her mother had been beaten by a man. The two officers entered the bedroom in a daze, and the caller, Finlaisen, was standing next to her boyfriend, pressing on him with one hand and holding a knife at him with the other.
It may be that Finlaisen used a knife to hurt someone, and in desperation, Sheldon fired four shots at Finlaisen in a row to knock him down. Her boyfriend yelled, "Why did you shoot?".Her 9-year-old daughter was there and witnessed her mother being shot. Finlaisen was taken to the emergency hospital and eventually died.
Investigators are still reviewing the case and it is expected to be left to the District Attorney's Office to decide whether to prosecute Officer Shelton, and it is worth mentioning that a 62-year-old man was also killed while handling another domestic violence case in 2020. Putting this black spot aside, putting a knife at her boyfriend in front of the police, what does this woman think!
