Caracas, December 11 (Xinhua) -- Maduro officially confirmed on December 11 that he will meet with Ali of Guyana in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on December 11 to discuss the settlement of the territorial dispute between the two countries.
In a televised speech on the same day, Maduro said that the meeting would be an important opportunity to resolve the territorial dispute between the two countries through dialogue. He strongly condemned the interference of US oil giant ExxonMobil and US Southern Command in the territorial dispute between Venezuela and Guyana.
Prime Minister Gonzaves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the rotating presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), sent telegrams to Maduro and Ali respectively on the 9th, inviting the two heads of state to hold direct dialogue on the issue of territorial disputes under international mediation.
Ali recently confirmed on social media that he will meet with Maduro and said that he will not discuss the territorial border issue between the two countries in the meeting until the official ruling of the International Court of Justice is announced, but the Guyana side is committed to maintaining regional peace. Venezuela did not previously make it clear whether Maduro would meet with Ali, but expressed gratitude to CELAC and other countries for their efforts to actively promote direct dialogue between the two heads of state.
In recent days, the dispute between Venezuela and Guyana over the oil-rich Essequibo region has intensified, and tensions have been held in the border area between the two countries, and the U.S. Southern Command and the Guyana military have conducted military Xi in the disputed territory. A number of regional organizations and countries in Latin America have expressed their position to resolve the territorial dispute between the two countries through dialogue. (ENDS).
